Derma Roller Overview
Derma Roller is a brand name for several hand-held devices used for microneedling. Variations of this device are also known as dermaroller, skin roller, or microneedle roller. These are used to treat wrinkles, scars, large pores, stretch marks, and loose skin.
Rolling needles over the skin creates tiny punctures, which stimulate your body to produce collagen and elastin. These tissue-building blocks give skin strength and elasticity. Needles are available in a range of sizes to treat different skin issues, and can be used at home or in a doctor’s office.
Microneedling can be painful, given the repeated pricking of your skin. Doctors who offer this treatment may use a topical anesthetic. Recovery could take up to a week due to swelling.
Dermarolling can cause hyperpigmentation in people with darker skin types, and some doctors will use skin lightening treatments to counteract this known side effect. It's recommended that you consult with an experienced doctor before using a Derma Roller or similar device.
