I am starting to see why Dentists get a bad rep and why I read so many posts that many say that feel like they have been to an auto dealership instead of a Dr. My story and dilemma is as follows, First of all I will admit that my oral hygiene for most of my life has been fairly poor and actually was told by a military dentist not to even bother with spending money on a dentist because I would lose them before I was 30. Well, I am now in my upper 40's and still have every one of them and now have insurance and some expendable income so I have decided that I want to not only keep them but fix my upper teeth due to a lifetime of jokes and hurtful comments about them being crooked and how it looks like I eat bricks etc.. I have been to a dentist off and on for many years but to say it was consistent and that I took care of my teeth in-between would be an understatement. I do not know how to smile and just looking at them gave me a horrible feeling and who wants to start their day by hating themselves and have even refused talking jobs because of my insecurities so that is the main reason for the lack of my commitment to cleaning and maintaining. I think I was secretly hoping the military dentist was correct so I could just get false teeth and move on with life. So my journey begins and these are the results of my visits and why now I am again skeptical of who to believe and what to do next. My main concern is my 4 top teeth, Central incisors lean in and one lateral incisor tilts out so there is some crowding and wisdom teeth have been pulled several years ago. Dentist 1,A perfect candidate for Invisalign, Bite looks good and yes you have some deep pockets and some bone loss and will need a deep clean (root plaining etc.) but all your teeth are very strong and have no movement. Dentist 2 Elite provider. You’re a great candidate but must do bottoms as well to give me what I want. Your bite is all messed up with an overbite and will need to do Alveoplasty on UR, UL, LL and LR, and bleaching. Also you have periodontal disease type B but if your new DDS is taking care of that with deep cleaning etc. you should be fine. Dentist 3 Orthodontist & Elite provider visit (prior Military dentist and 3 practices). You have periodontal disease type 2 and your teeth are that of a 70+ year old and if I try to move them they will fall out. And you’re at risk of having sleep apnea and should have your airway X-Rays sent to a specialist to read. Also you have a slight under bite that could be corrected with bands pulling the jaw forward while correcting the upper alignment or I will not get the results you want by correcting the upper incisors. See my recommended Periodontitis and ONLY if he gives you the all clear then I will treat you otherwise I will not accept you as a patient. You guessed it, today at 10:45 I see a Periodontitis, It’s not the one he recommended but with the limited amount in our area (but still 100 miles away) they work with his office regularly. If now I find out that I will need thousands of $$ worth of bone grafting, gum regeneration, skin transplants or whatever else they see I am not sure what to do, I’m going broke and have not even had the planning done yet. so frustrated, scared and unsure about the whole thing now.
