I had VSG in September 2020. No pain afterward at all, just some stomach adjusting that was uncomfortable for a while. The mental adjustments were the hardest. I had to completely reshape my relationship with food and I am still working on it. I have lost 70 lbs in 6 months and feel like my old self again. I have tons of energy, am so much healthier, have more confidence, and feel a freedom from food addiction that I didn’t know was basically keeping me in chains.
The only problem (not related to my treatment by Dr. Faulkenberry) is I sometime eat to fast or eat the wrong food and will not go down. The experience is very unpleasant.
My Dr. in Austin Texas saved my life! In June 2007, I went into surgery weighing 265 lbs. Today I weigh 140 and feel like a million bucks. I will turn 51 in June and am so happy I had this procedure done. My weight had yo-yoed my whole life and once I was 100 lbs. overweight, I knew that I no longer had it in me to diet it off. I had gained and lost enough weight in my life to make up 5 people! Dr. F and his staff worked with me for well over a year while I pondered if I should do the procedure or not. When at last the decision was made and the surgery performed, I could not have been happier. The weight literally fell off and I had NO side effects. His staff of nurses and a great nutrionalist made me feel so comfortable and were always willing and ready to answer any questions that I had - and may still have to this day. At this stage in my life, I knew that I couldn't work the weight off myself and had tried and failed so many times before that I literally saw gastric bypass as my only hope - and it was well worth it. I am 3 years post-op and the weight has stayed off. Thank you to Dr. F and his dynamic team. I am forever in your debt.
Finally got my surgery scheduled~ my life will change for the better on Monday, 9/28/15. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! If you have had the surgery, please, please give me tips and helpful info! What do you wish you'd known before your surgery? What do you think the worst part of this whole thing is? ANYTHING that you want to tell me about your personal experience. *Pics to com* Updated on 14 Sep 2015: I started my preop diet to shrink my liver. It sucks. I'm tired, I'm hungry and I'm grouchy. Took my before pics. I always fidgety how big I've gotten til I see it in pictures. I simply cannot wait to be healthy again.
