I can't say enough about how happy I've been with Southern Connecticut Dermatology and Dr. Evans. Dr. Evans is not only highly skilled but also has a wonderful bedside manner. I've been plesed with all my visits and treatments, including PRP treatment for hair loss. Dr. Evans is very pleasant, listens to and clearly respects the patient's concerns and well-being, and makes sure to share all her knowledge of information and options. The staff is as friendly as any you will find and wait time has never been an issue.
PRP is a great option for female pattern hair loss, the genetic and hormonal type of hair loss. Result include fuller and thicker hair and slowing down the hair loss process. PRP treatments are most effective for women (and men) who have the problem for less than 5 years. Typically 4 treatments are done monthly to see improvement and if good results are seen, continued treatment would be recommended every 4-6 months. It would be best to have an evaluation with a dermatologist to assess the type of hair loss and if you indeed are a good candidate for this type of treatment. Other options that can also be done include topical minoxidil and vitamins including biotin.
PRP is most effective for the diagnosis of Androgenetic Alopecia, more commonly known as male or female pattern hair loss. It may help other types of hair loss as well but they would not be the main indication for this treatment. From your history, both your underlying chronic condition of Ulcerative colitis AND the medications you are taking can all contribute to the hair thinning that you are experiencing. PRP treatments can be used for you, but the results are not predictable. It would be best for you to consult with a hair loss expert to devise a treatment plan that could give you the best results. Modification of your medications if possible would certainly be helpful and would also need to be discussed with your gastroenterologist. Seeking advise from a more holistically oriented dermatologist might also be beneficial.
After PRP treatments it is not uncommon to have some swelling and even bruising on the treated areas and even extending onto the forehead and around the eye areas. Ice can be very helpful to diminish this which should resolve within a week of treatment. The swelling should be improving day by day and if it is not, It is best to have your doctor take a look at the swelling to be sure it is ok.
Significant swelling after Kybella typically lasts about 2 weeks and then can persist for some degree for several weeks after that. It is not unusual for some degree of swelling and even some bruising to persist for 7 weeks. In some instances it may last longer. Nodules(lumps) may develop after treatment and may not uncommonly persist throughout this time period. Gentle massage may be helpful and other treatments may be discussed with your doctor if the nodules persist. I would recommend not to have your second treatment until the nodule and swelling have both dissipated.
Botox can certainly be used to help soften these lines but it will not erase them because they are too deep at rest. A filler can be added after the botox injections to give you an even better correction. If you keep up with the botox every 4-5 months, you will keep the problem from getting worse so I think Botox could play a nice role in your cosmetic enhancement.
