I am a 21 year old male who received 5 treatments (over 6 1/2 month span) of Cutera Excel V for my facial flushing and blood vessels. I suffer from a rare conditions known as erythromelalgia (for me: face, feet, hands) which causes flushing and may appear as excessive rosacea. I walked in expecting V-Beam but received Cutera instead and to my surprise after 5 treatments and 5 months later my condition has improved significantly. I still have permanent rosiness but it is sooooo much better than before. No more apparent blood vessels and best of all no more burning! Excellent pricing as well only $325 for both full cheeks, nose, and he included acne control using laser genesis.

I turned 54 in June (2014) and looked pretty good then. Friends were regularly remarking how great I looked at 54. Fast-forward to 5 months later, and the effects of sudden stressor in my life -- the loss of a parent, ballooning workload, big problems in my husband's family, big problems in my family, has created lots of stress made worse by worrying, sadness, lack of sleep, not eating right and so on. Unfortunately, the cumulative effects of all this stress has had a negative impact on my face. Bottom line is, oxidative stress causes cell death in humans and directly contributes to our aging process. It certainly seems to be my situation. Updated on 5 Dec 2014: The effects of Voluma are really apparent at 2-weeks out. It also helps to get quality sleep, stay positive, eat right and drink water, which I have been doing. I think a combination of these things have made a significant improvement in my how my face looks! Updated on 5 Dec 2014: Here's another photo taken on 12/5 - the improvement is clear! Again, the combination of the Voluma, rest, drinking water and eating right have really helped to improve my otherwise tired, drawn and aged face! Updated on 29 Nov 2015: It's been about a year since my November 2014 Voluma treatment. I had another round of Voluma 9/30/15. Things are still looking pretty good! Updated on 29 Jan 2016: It has been 4 months after my last Voluma Treatment. In that time, I've been through hell and back. As a consequence of enduring numerous personal issues, I developed terrible health problems in response to all the stress. BUT we survived, and things are getting back to normal now. Let me tell you, friends.... stress is the WORST thing for our happiness - AND our good looks -- as we ALL know too well! I am now back on track, back at the gym, getting good rest, drinking lots of water (I make spa water - frozen organic mixed fruit mixed with water), eating much better (cooking a LOT at home), taking long soaks in the tub using my homemade bath bombs (WORK WONDERS), taking long walks, using the sauna at the gym, getting in-touch with my spiritual side, meditating, staying positive, etc.... All of these things are so important. While I'm not completely out of the woods, I look - and feel much better already. My best to you all! Updated on 10 May 2018: LLLLLLL
Excellent results, my skin feels smoother and less uneven after only one treatment. I had minimal redness on my cheeks (where I had the laser treatment) for only the night of the procedure, and it was gone by the next day. It was painless and required no after-care whatsoever. I will definitely be getting more of these treatments, I was told about 3-4 would achieve the most optimal results, which is exciting because I can already see a difference with 1!
I went to the Maryland Laser & Vein Institute today, 08/22/13, and I was extremely pleased with the overall experience. I had a condition called Venous Lakes, so I was very pleased to hear about Dr. Robert Weiss, and this laser institute since they have 51 lasers, and years of experience with them. The one that was used on my lip is the Excel V, the lastest and newest long pulse laser from Cutera. I was looking for a Doctor like Robert Weiss, who has had over 30 years as a dermatologist, and is probably one of the most recognized laser specialists in the United States. He knew just what to do with my particular vascular condition, and although the results will not become apparent for a few more weeks, I have every confidence in Dr.Weiss' skills that my vein will no longer be visible on my lip. I was also impressed with his staff, from Linda on the front desk, to his special assistant, Julie, who explained what was going to take place and assisted the Doctor during the procedure. l live in Virginia, and it was very much worth the drive to have my procedure done by Dr. Weiss. Let me also add, that his wife, Dr. Margaret Weiss is also a highly regarded and well-known laser surgeon, with an MD degree from Princeton. There is also another partner, Dr. Karen Beasley, who is also a well know specialist in the laser field. Regardless of which of the three doctors you decide to have work on your skin, I believe you will be very pleased with your experience at the Maryland Laser & Vein Institute. Two things are important when working with lasers: having a skilled doctor, and the correct laser for the procedure. At this Institute, you have both under one roof.
Wonderful Experience - Hunt Valley, MD
It made me look rested while still looking completely natural!Updated on 30 Mar 2012: I was unhappy with side effects of Botox and this drug left me with none!
Another laser that has been around for a while is the Lumenis Active and Deep FX which are also customizable fractional ablative laser treatments. In my experience it provides positive results when used correctly. Unlike the traditional CO2 resurfacing which treated the entire skin surface and involved significant recovery time, fractional CO2 lasers work by treating the skin in a matrix of tiny pinhole sized spaces. It allows for much less downtime. The other method of providing fractional is with RF energy through an array of microneedles. This can also work for acne scarring. Both fractional CO2 lasers and RF devices vary and many are customizable, offering different energy levels and different treatment settings. It is very important to select a board-certified dermatologist that is a highly experienced in laser treatment to be able to properly customize the treatment for your skin and condition. One treatment will most likely show improvement, but it’s possible you may want or need more treatments in the future.
There is variability in the type, location, and severity of varicose veins and different treatments available. I recommend a consultation with a board certified physician who specializes in the treatment of veins. An accurate diagnosis using ultrasound is a critical first step. Leaky valves in the underlying saphenous veins can cause visible varicose veins. If that is the case, then treatment of the saphenous vein needs to be done before connected visible veins are treated. Fortunately, non-surgical techniques have replaced vein stripping in nearly all patients. “Endovenous ablation” is an out-patient or in-office procedure using laser or radiofrequency energy to collapse the vein from the inside. It usually has minimal discomfort or recovery time, and is often covered by insurance when the veins are causing medical problems. More superficial veins are typically treated with injections that do not sting (we do not recommend the use of hypertonic saline, which does hurt). Occasionally, some smaller spider veins may respond better to lasers. The level of pain is generally minimal for most procedures. Cost of treatment varies from a few hundred to possibly a few thousand depending on the extent of the condition and the necessary procedures.
At our practice we specialize in vein treatment with over thirty years of experience. The most common treatment for varicose and spider veins on the legs is sclerotherapy, the injection of a sclerosing solution into the problem area. This irritates the lining of the vein from the inside, allowing the body to naturally absorb the damaged vein. This works very well for most varicose and spider veins--there are different solutions and concentrations suitable for different vein sizes. While lasers can be used to treat small spider veins on the legs, sclerotherapy is generally more effective, less painful, and more cost-effective. When varicose veins are present, an ultrasound is usually performed to determine the source of the problem--malfunctioning veins. Depending on the problem, an “endovenous ablation” may be needed to treat the deeper problem vein. This in-office treatment utilizes either a laser (Cool-Touch endovenous ablation or CTEV) or radiofrequency (Venafit, formerly known as VNUS Closure) fiber within the vein to “heat-shrink” it from the inside; local anesthetic minimizes discomfort. Another FDA-approved treatment for these larger varicose veins is VenaSeal. VenaSeal uses a tiny catheter in the vein to deposit medical glue to seal the vein. Once sealed, the blood reroutes, and the problem vein is gradually reabsorbed. Fortunately, vein stripping is a dated and unnecessary surgical procedure thanks to these numerous, less invasive alternative procedures. Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy and ambulatory phlebectomy (a treatment of vein removal through small punctures in the skin, leaving no scars) are two additional alternatives. Vein stripping has a significant recovery time, is much more painful, and leaves permanent scars. As with any treatment, a consultation with your dermatologist or vein specialist is necessary to determine which treatment is the best option for you. Be careful and get a second opinion if a “vein center” recommends endovenous ablation for spider veins or “because it’s covered by your insurance.” An ethical physician will not recommend a more aggressive treatment than you need. Fees depend on many factors, including the size and type of varicose veins, method of treatment, and the number of treatments needed. In cases of large, painful varicose veins, some of the costs of treatment may be covered by insurance. Cosmetic treatment of problem veins is not covered by insurance.
Lower Chin lifting and refinement of the jaw line and side profile of the chin can be accomplished by a combination of fillers and neuromodulator is like Botox. But it must be done by an expert doctor who is very experienced. Devices like all Ultherapy can also be used to tighten under the chin and lift along the side of the cheeks. Radio frequency is another method to tighten around the chin and jawline and neck.
There is no one best laser for skin resurfacing. It depends on the degree of sun damage or scarring. In our practice we have milder resurfacing lasers and resurfacing lasers that go more deeply. We tailor the treatment to the specific problem whether it is uneven pigmentation or uneven texture.
