Dr. Johnson is an amazing surgeon and provider!! He is a rare find able to combine excellent surgical skills with phenomenal bedside manner and medical knowledge (the entire package!!!) I highly recommend this Aplus physician! I had an amazing experience and beautiful outcome! Thank you to Dr Johnson and his staff!
After doing my research, I chose Dr. Perry Johnson for rhinoplasty consultation. He is the Division Chief for Plastic Surgery at UNMC and specializes in rhinoplasty. I have many friends who are health care providers who all highly recommended Dr. Perry Johnson as the "go to" surgeon for rhinoplasty, whether it be cosmetic or complex reconstructive nasal surgery. At consultation Dr. Johnson was humble and genuinely listened to my concerns about my nose. He gave a thorough explanation of rhinoplasty, including limitation, potential complications, and what to expect post-operatively. His office at Village Point was clean and staff were great. He used modern digital photo technology to predict what my nose should look like based off his surgical plan. I left consultation feeling reassured, knowing I was in good hands. I ultimately went through with surgery and couldn't be happier with the results. Surprisingly, I had minimal post-op pain. As he informed, it took time for the swelling to fully resolve, but now over 6 months from surgery, can look in the mirror at see the nose I was hoping for. Thank you Dr. Johnson!!!
Dr. Johnson is an amazing surgeon. He helped me feel more comfortable in my body. Made it bearable to live in with Top surgery. I am female to male transgender, and have always struggled with chest dysphoria growing up and into adulthood. I would bind my chest for multiple hours a day just to have a flat chest, and it wasn’t enough. I needed this life changing surgery. And now I’m the man I’m supposed to be. I’m obsessed with my results and admire my new chest daily thanks to Dr. Johnson. I am free and so grateful.
I will preface by saying, I am highly active, a lifelong runner and the day before surgery went on a 9 mile run. But- I'd gotten to a point where I could only run if I was wearing an abdominal binder. I had a diastasis recti repair, an umbilical hernia repair and a tummy tuck. I am 5'9, and was 155lbs the day of surgery. That's a bit higher than my normal weight but feel like my diastasis was causing further issues. After working with a physical therapist for a year, she diagnosed me with diastasis recti, and connected the dots between my 6 years of worsening issues that noone else could figure out. She referred me for a Diastasis Repair surgery. I'd seen multiple GI doctors, colorectal specialists, chiropractors, and physical therapists to figure out my worsening digestive issues and chronic back pain, hip pain, and IT band issues. I had developed severe constipation issues as well as food sensitivities I've never had before. I also was gaining weight for unexplained reasons. Everyone brushed me off and not one of them would acknowledge the DR and the issues it can cause. I also had an umbilical hernia which was why I though I needed to see a General Surgeon instead of a Plastic Surgeon (One surgeon told me my 'next step' was a colon removal, another told me I'd have to accept wearing a corset the rest of my life or taping my abdominals together with KTape to "fix" my issues; and yet another surgeon told me DR repairs will fail due to "muscle memory" if a giant piece of mesh wasn't used). I kept looking for a surgeon and it took almost an entire year before I found Dr. Johnson. I met with Dr. Johnson and in minutes of talking with him, knew I'd finally found my surgeon. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and knew the second he looked at my abdomen that surgery was needed. (And I feel confident that he is the type of surgeon who would have told me the truth if I had I NOT needed surgery!) The office and clinic staff have all been friendly and caring and their process was seamless in scheduling my surgery, meeting with the financial lady, etc. I do wish I'd had info while at the consult regarding things like post-op medications, what preparation I needed to do prior, any pre-op appt I needed etc. (I learned to ask about these things afterwards from a Facebook group I'm in). Dr Johnson's office was quick to respond to my emails though when I had questions! Due to the pandemic, I had to go through surgery alone, without my husband there, but the nursing staff made me feel so comfortable throughout the whole pre-op process. I was scheduled for the AM, and was able to go home the same day. I do wish prescriptions could have been called in while I was in surgery so that my husband could have picked them up prior to picking me up- we ended up having to wait in a 30min line at the pharmacy on the way home. I've had a fairly uneventful recovery period and pain was well managed. I had a few questions that I emailed DR Johnson about, and they were always very quick to email me back or call me back right away with answers. I do feel like I had good discharge and post-op instructions for the immediate 24-48hrs, but feel like anything beyond that was kind of lacking. Any information I had as far as what to expect and what was normal or not, in the further weeks post op, came from the ladies in my Facebook surgery group. At 1wk post op, I saw Dr. Johnson, and had my belly button stitches removed as well as my two drains removed. About 3.5wks post op I emailed the office to get a muscle relaxer as the muscle spasms when I stood up were extreme and had gotten to the point of throwing up when I'd stand up. After starting on those, I feel like my recovery became easier and I was able to move around more. Prior to that, I wasn't able to get myself in and out of a chair, or even walk more than a few feet without the use of a walker. (So definitely ask about getting a muscle relaxer for right after surgery!) I had my next follow-up at 5wks and was told to remove the binder completely unless I felt I needed it. I bought a different one (instead of the full abdominal one) and wear it if I'm going to be moving around alot during the day or doing a longer bike riding session, to help with swelling, but overall have not needed it much at all after about week 6. I am now 7 weeks and 3 days post op and still struggling to stand fully upright. I cannot lay flat yet, so am still sleeping in a recliner. The surgeon's office said I should have been fully upright by 1-2wks, but from talking with the other FB group ladies, 4-6 weeks seems to be an average range for when they could stand fully upright without pain and feeling overstretched. I am a little behind the curve in that regard, but not too worried. I'm able to do more and more each day, although I still get worn out quickly. I finally took my first solo shower at 7wks, without needing help, and started riding the recumbent bike daily after my 5wk appt, to help increase strength. So far, my post op appts were scheduled at 1wk, at 5wks and my next one will be in March 2021, at 4 months post op. It took about 5 days post op to have my first BM, but around week 2, my digestive system finally started working again, and after 6 years of worsening digestive issues, and the last 2 yrs of not being able to have a BM on my own without enemas, laxatives, suppositories, etc, I can confidently say that this diastasis repair surgery has fixed my chronic GI issues. The back pain, hip pain and IT band pain are also GONE. I feel like a complete new person and cannot wait until I'm able to get back to running- I already feel a world of difference in core strength and support! I will continue to update this post as I get further in recovery but would highly recommend Dr Johnson for a Diastasis Repair surgery and Tummy Tuck!! Updated on 16 Jan 2021: I've been doing lots of massage and stretching but I'm still not standing fully upright without forcing it. My abdomen will turn white down the midline when I stretch too much. But still better overall than its been. I finally was able to start sleeping in bed around 9wks, but still have to use a pillow under my knees and elevate my head. (Without the pillows, and laying flat, I stretch too much at night and am in pain the next day) I have been using the treadmill as well as the recumbent bike, and did my first slow treadmill runs this week. The first was one mile before I had to walk, and the second time I was able to run 2 miles. I noticed more swelling along the incision after my runs, but nothing concerning, and it goes away within a few hours. My incision does seem a bit higher than expected. I keep hoping maybe it's just from swelling making it look higher, but at 10wks, I'm starting to think I might have to have some sort of laser hair removal, as my pubic hairline is at the incision- which sits higher than pretty much every pair of underwear and pants I own. Overall, that's minor compared to having my diastasis fixed and finally feeling whole again. GI issues I can confidently say are resolved, and all my chronic back, hip and IT band pain has been gone since surgery as well. Still have absolutely no regrets about this surgery at all!!
Since i was younger i knew i always wanted bigger breast. Once i was able to afford it i knew i had to do it and i’m soooo glad i did! This process was smooth and easier then i thought. If you are even questioning the procedure i suggest at least going in for a free consultation!! Updated on 8 Jul 2019: Everything is going good! Still a little tender by the incisions but nothing horrible. I can really tell that massaging them and moving them really makes a difference. I ended up going with 770 cc (Natrelle inspira) implants. Since i did go pretty big; the first week was horrible pain wise. I only took one week off of work but honestly i would suggest taking two mainly because driving was super uncomfortable and painful. Updated on 16 Jul 2019: Still dropping and fluffing. Zero pain. Forever wishing i could sleep on my stomach because my back is killing me. Incisions are healing nicely and i just cant wait to go swimming and show them off! My boyfriend loves them and so do i! Updated on 10 Sep 2019: The last couple of months have been hard. I am a stomach sleeper and have been trying to find what is comfortable for me. They have dropped a-lot which has caused stretch marks which made me kind of sad and still am sad about it. I thought getting a BA they would be perfect but i should have known going so big so fast would result in that. Also, one side is mis-shaped at the top and middle which sometimes looks weird... im not sure if its just my body or if it will ever go away but its not cute to look at.. im still glad i got them done though. Just if you are considering this remember that it takes time and when you spend forever wanting them and they you get them and have to wait longer... well its hard to be patient but im trying!
Hi RealSelf community. I have been reading this web site for over 2 years as I wanted to remove implants! Boy have I learned a lot here. Thanks to all of you who have shared with such honesty and unabashed reality! I had a child very young with 32 AA boobs. Well they began “32 Longs” very soon after and as young as I was, I hated them. Never let anyone see them after an incident with a few friends while bending over I her “oh you have long thin boobies like cow udders”. Gee thanks. At 40 I could afford getting implants and went for it. Not sure what I got size wise but thy were saline under the mussel and boy were thy nice! I was a 34 solid and perky C which fit me perfectly! And life went on @ weight gain after hysterectomy of 40 pounds and I was now a matronly 40 DD. Ugh. More ups and downs @ menopause and I found myself 70 pounds over weight and a 44 G. Hated that. This is when I started planning to remove them. They were so heavy and now well embedded under my arms and my own tissues “hanging off the implants” as it was described once. Weight loss plan got me down 50 pounds so I started consults and we ready in mid 2017 to get the work done when I was diagnosed with a DCIS (Breast cancer - safe zero) so I began a journey to remove the lump and radiation then Estrogen suppression RX. This stopped all thought of removing but only pushed it back. I did a consult before radiation with a reconstruction surgeon to get a new plan. He advices I need to wit at least 6 months and the skin is never the Sam but he would do the work. Dr Perry Johnson (Omaha, Nebraska) and I have to say he was awesome. One year and one day later a clean mamo and implants were removed along with a lift. I threw in a tummy tuck cuz, well I could! I am 9 days op and at 62 with a breast that had been cut on (twice) and radiation (and I am sure that implant had gotten harder) I never had any grand ideas to look 25 again. Not ever 45. I wanted the implants out and a little skin / fat off my abdominal area. Well - if I never get any better then I am today I am here to say that Dr Johnson AMAZINGLY GOOD! I think I could even wear a bikini! (I won’t but well dam it I think I could!
After a couple years of consideration of implants, I finally did it. I was tired of looking at my deflated chest and always needing a push up bra to have the nice shaped I used to have. I showed my Dr a pic from my baby shower of what I wanted them to look like again. We decided a 650cc cohesive gel high profile implant. As soon as I woke from the procedure I was instantly happy. I did later that day develop a hematoma. I called my Dr right away and he got me back into surgery to drain it, reassured me it was all gonna be fine. I'm post op day 2, I have a moderate level of muscle soreness at the top of my breasts but it was been manageable. The recovery has definitely been worth the outcome. Updated on 30 Nov 2017: Bruising Updated on 3 Dec 2017: Having severe regret and buyers remorse. My discomfort level is so bad, the stiffness, stretching, pain, etc....i feel it's never going away. I hate the way the pain pills make me feel, so I don't like to take them. This really needs to pass soon. Updated on 5 Dec 2017: After a REALLY rough weekend, today is fairly normal. I still feel sluggish but my pain is manageable and haven't needed to take anything. I stopped the pain pills over the weekend cuz they made feel really shitty. The Tylenol and ibuprofen didn't do a whole lot but I took them anyway. In my pictures I have red bumps all over me. I'm assuming it's a reaction to my antibiotic and I wonder if the antibiotic made me feel sick. I'm done taking it now, so....fingers crossed. I have a check up today and I think he will be pleased with the progress. I look at the pictures from post op day 1 and realized how much they have changed already. My buyers remorse has mostly subsided and I don't have the regret that I did a few days again ago. I read so many others reviews, I love hearing others stories, but I wonder how everyone's recovery was so easy. So many others say after day 3 life was perfect. I can not say the same. Just wondering what the difference was.... Updated on 7 Dec 2017: So after a REALLY bad weekend, I've had good days. My fatigue is lessening everyday and my pain a d discomfort are much better. My buyers remorse and regret have subsided and I'm really happy with the surgery now. I do wish I had a better heads up on some of the difficulties instead of the sugar coating from so many. But I do understand everyone has their own recovery. So for those that are reading this and are still pre op, be prepared... not everyone is wonderful by day 3 and playing dress up, some feel like they got hit by a truck and then it parked on their chest for a few days. But, IT DOES PASS. Updated on 18 Dec 2017: 3 weeks post op. Still have muscle pain and some hypersensitivity, but tolerable. Massaging is a must for the relief. Super happy with how it is progressing. The right still has some swelling, but that was the hematoma side and it will get better. Updated on 27 Dec 2017: One month has passed and it went really fast (after the first week of hell). I'm sure having the holidays come up helped too. I went back to work 2 weeks ago and had some rough days but I made it thru. I'm a floor nurse at a local hospital and am always busy. Sometimes the discomfort bothered me but nothing ibuprofen and Tylenol didn't help and massaging too. I've received several compliments from my friends and reassuring on my decision. My husband, of course, has always complimented me but he also didnt noticed when i gained 40 pounds, so his opinion is hard to take sometimes. But he is very happy with them but says it wasnt necessary cuz they were great before (obviously we disagree on this topic). He bought me 3 new bras for xmas (very brave man) and they are perfect. I went thru my drawers after Xmas and tried on everything that I had and cleared out a bunch of stuff and made room for new, which is super exciting. I never thought i would think this, but i kinda hope they dont drop a whole lot. I like the perky appearance and they way i look in v-neck shirts. My right side is still slighly higher and swollen but seems to get better everyday. My friends remind me how awesome swimsuit time is going to be this summer. I did try on suits that I had and some were an absolute no and one I finally filled out appropriately and another fit but may be only used privately with my better half. Super glad I did it and can't wait for summer when I'm not wearing 3 layers of clothes. Updated on 30 Jan 2018: I couldn't be happier with the results. Here are some updated photos.
Just had my procedure today. I've always been self-conscious about my nose and finally had the opportunity to have surgery. Was able to go home pretty quickly after surgery. Post-op Day 0 has been so-so. Biggest complaints at this point are of course the congestion, but I also have a killer headache. Caffeine withdrawal possibly contributing. Decently controlled with pain meds but definitely going to focus on really upping my hydration tomorrow to see if it helps. Also starting a Medrol dosepack tomorrow so hoping that helps me out. Swelling and bruising coming in nicely, especially on my bridge! Undereye area not looking too shabby at this point but I know the peak is still probably yet to come! Doing my best to keep the ice on my eyes as instructed. At this point I am mostly just tired, but excited to get this whole healing thing rolling. Updated on 27 Jun 2017: Updated on 27 Jun 2017: Officially nearing the end of post-op day 1! I'm significantly more swollen and bruised than yesterday but overall feeling pretty good at this point. Was up and about quite a bit more than yesterday. Headache has greatly decreased today and that was really the worst of it anyway. Got a call from my amazing nurse Heather this morning to check in on me. Some things I wish I would've thought about or purchased before surgery. 1. Soft foods, I feel like I COULD probably chew a bit more at this point but I just don't want to. Mostly sticking to mashed potatoes, pudding, etc. at this point (not that I can taste food anyway)! 2. Ice mask for eyes. I was able to take home the one they gave me after surgery but the more you re-use it the more it leaks. Luckily I had some self contained ice packs that fit in the mask on hand but otherwise would've needed to go purchase something. 3. Face wipes since not able to shower for first couple days, feeling darn greasy at this point. 4. Miralax. Again, luckily had some on hand but would've had to purchase if not. Because narcotics without stool softener is a bad deal. Updated on 28 Jun 2017: I'm afraid not much to report today. My swelling is looking a bit more yellow-y today so that is encouraging. Pain well controlled. I'm officially reaching the boredom state of my journey I think. Currently binge watching House of Cards so there's that. Splint and cast off on Monday, let the countdown begin! Updated on 30 Jun 2017: Not a whole lot to update here. Feeling pretty good. Still rocking some pretty sweet yellow shiners, good thing is most of the redness is gone. Under eye swelling also greatly decreased. Today's biggest development is that I am starting to be able to taste/smell again! Cast/splint comes off on Monday, can't wait! Updated on 1 Jul 2017: So I think I spoke a bit too soon about being able to taste/smell as that seems to have gone away again today. It was good while it lasted. Tomorrow is officially the day prior to cast removal day. Excited to hopefully get some better sleep soon as that has been challenging with the whole mouth breathing/dry mouth situation. I'm wearing a bit of makeup today to hide my bruises so pics aren't reflective of how much is still there. Updated on 3 Jul 2017: Cast is off and I'm super stoked with the result! Looks very natural, couldn't be happier with the decision to have surgery. Best part of today was getting the splints out, instant relief and breathing easy again. I do think I still have some tip swelling but honestly don't even mind how that's looking. Updated on 10 Jul 2017: Well, it's officially been two weeks. Still feeling good about results so far. I went back to work today and no one seemed to notice I had surgery, which I think is a good thing! Updated on 25 Jul 2017: Updated on 14 Oct 2017: Feeling great about results. Scar has faded quite a bit, barely noticeable at this point.
I've been looking into the doctors in Omaha for YEARS (possibly 7-12) and like everyone I quickly narrow it down to Johnson and the other very well known rhino doc in town (I'm being vague purposefully for reasons you'll see). In the end I went with Johnson and I'll tell you why. While doing extensive research online on the other surgeon, I of course was extactic that we had one of the best rhinoplasty surgeons right here in my home town. I thought for sure this was the guy. Then I noticed the magazine that gave him this title. Not a medical magazine or consumer magazine, but a money magazine. Thought that was weird. So I specifically went looking for bad reviews and of course found several. They said things like he took too much off, they were left with an upturned 80's nose, lots of nosebleeds and pain well after the surgery and doc was of no help trying to treat, possibly some other complications or things of that nature. I would search for these reviews every few months looking for new ones until one day, they were all gone. Every last one. Intrigued, I did more digging, more searches over the course of a few years, and found nothing negative ever again. So this guy obviously paid to have these reviews removed and I'm not about to go to someone that pays money to hide the truth from consumers. I'm really hoping this review stays, but only time will tell. So anyways, I go back to the drawing board, find Johnson, do the same online review stalking for the next few years, and finally made my first consultation with him this year. Updated on 16 May 2017: Since I was having a rhino/septo plasty, they contacted insurance to see if part could be covered. I remember the paper they gave me (it's around here somewhere) said it's be around 3-4 grand if insurance covered the septo, and was closer to 5 or 6 if they didn't. They called a few weeks later to let me know insurance was covering it and I need to pay for the rhinoplasty 2 weeks before surgery. I give them a call to make my payment of around $3400. They tell me I'll have to pay whatever insurance doesn't cover due to deductibles and such for the septo within 6 months after the procedure. I ask what that final figure was they are billing to insurance and I almost fell over when she told me 18 THOUAND dollars. I of course could not find my paper that showed a figure closer to 18 hundred, and was sure the lady was wrong. She assured me it was the proper amount. I was floored. Why such a huge difference? This was the most money I have ever heard quoted in my life for this surgery. Called insurance and I'll have to pay around 2 grand which really sucks considering I was expecting to pay way less for this part. But 2 grand is better than 18...i just still feel like I'm getting robbed or something. Updated on 16 May 2017: Arrived to my appointment and a nurse was waiting with the door open to let me inside. They promptly called me back to get the ball rolling. At this point I was very nervous and very frightened. Dr. Johnson came in to answer any last minute questions and address any concerns. We finished up, and within 10 minutes I was in the OR and out like a light. Now, my concern from the beginning was post-op pain. When I found out beforehand that I was getting the lowest dose of Norco I was concerned to say the least. My nurse assured me this was common protocol for this procedure and most people have very little pain. I remembered the doctor saying the same thing during our consult and remembered reading countless stories repeating that same thing. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me. Next thing I know I'm waking up post-op, weeping, moaning, and shaking from the pain. My nurse would ask my level which was at an 8, would dose me with something, reassess only to still be at an 8. This happened several times. Finally she told me she's given me everything she could and it was time for me to go home. I begged for a stronger script just for a day or two for severe breakthrough pain. She told me to take the Norco I have in the car. She wheeled me out, and I was on my way, still sobbing. After taking 2 doses of medication way earlier than I should, I had to call the doctor because I was miserable. They called in a higher dose which thankfully helped. I was still in a ton of pain, was having trouble resting, but it was at least somewhat tolerable at this point. That was really all that happened that day. The surgery must have gone well as I didn't hear anything otherwise. Oh, they gave me an eye mask ice pack and this thing is sent directly from the heavens. Ask for an extra 1 or 2 as it started to leak on the first day. Updated on 16 May 2017: I woke up at 6am to take my meds and THANK GOD the pain had subsided immensely. Today I have been able to stay ahead of the pain for the most part instead of staring at the clock in complete agony waiting for the next dose. Today things were just more uncomfortable. I feel pretty congested, the gauze is less saturated with blood, but I can see blot clots forming inside of the nostrils that you just have to leave there. The swelling and bruising started, but nothing too horrible. I was able to be completely dependent today, taking my meds as scheduled and changing the gauze as needed. I was able to get a little rest throughout the day but also able to get up for light activity around the house. Updated on 16 May 2017: Wasn't going to post pics but here we go. Here are some before pics the morning of surgery (so no makeup) don't hate ;) My deviated septum isnt too obvious in these pictures because of the lighting, but you can see it if you look closely especially if you compare the 2 where I'm looking slightly to the left and right. The one with the bandages was from later on in the day after I was able to control my pain a little. Updated on 23 May 2017: Finally got the splints off and very thankful as I don't know how much longer I could stand them. My nose felt very swollen and they were getting extremely uncomfortable. The process itself wasn't bad, just a little jarring but over in a total of maybe one minute. When I was able to look at my nose I was horrified by what my pored had been up to underneath the splint for the last week. Whiteheads everywhere. It was disgusting. The Dr. Answered my questions then left the room. I was a little shocked that no one cleaned me up, both inside and outside of my nose. There was blood and marker and God knows what else, so I covered my nose with a tissue until I could get home and clean things up myself. Now the important part: the shape. Although one week is much too early to tell and I was and am still really swollen, I think my Dr did a great job. My septum appears to be straight, my hump gone. Although my nose still looks large, I'm confident that it's because of swelling. Johnson didn't want to take off so much that my nose didn't fit my face (I have really large lips) and I think he did a good job with his judgement. I cannot wait to see how this thing heals. I attached a before (right) and after (left)
I recently had a Breast reduction done by Dr. Johnson. Let me tell you, he is hands down the BEST PLASTIC SURGEON I have had the pleasure of dealing with. This was a very life changing decision for me, and he was so reassuring, kind, and straight forward with everything I asked. As well as all of his staff, they were in lack of better words simply amazing. They even worked with my schedule as my insurance was changing and the procedure had a deadline. As for my new breast, every day I fall more in love with my new figure! From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!
The nose will swell a little from insertion of a columellar strut. I assume the insertion would be through a small incision on the columella. If the columellar strut is inserted by "opening the nose up" via a standard open rhinoplasty approach then the swelling will be much greater and for up to a year.
Because you have ptosis (drooping) and the nipple/areolar are at the inferior border of your breast you would be best served with a lift as well. An implant alone would not produce an aesthetically pleasing result.
It appears that another revision would be required. Fillers are ok as a temporizing measure but I believe another operation would be necessary to achieve your long term goals. Good luck.
You definitley would benefit from a lift. Implants alone would result in an unsatisfactory result. Implants, in addition to the lift, would provide improve volume to the breasts as well as improved upper pole fill of the breast. Good luck.
Extrusion of sutures is not uncommon. They can be a sourse of local infection and in rare cases progress to more serious infection. It should be removed by your surgeon. Good luck.
