See my face lift review under my profile. Revision of the upper eyelid scar tissue and fat transfer to under eyes and cheekbones and juvederm around mouth . Dr Jelks is a very experienced ocular double board certified surgeon. My ps retired. See face lift review also .I may need more fat transfered in 3 months we will have to see. So far very happy sutures out day 6. Updated on 16 Aug 2014: Sutures out but are itching like crazy ! I keep putting cool cloths when I can. It will take 3 weeks . I don't remember this from last time. Swelling going down. One eye is slightly drooping . Going on vacation so hopefully will get lots of sleep.
Although Dr. Jelks had been referred to me for revision of previous botched eyelid surgeries by other doctors, by a top (now retired) rhinoplasty surgeon in the country, I'm extremely disappointed. Dr. Jelks ended up doing 2 revision surgeries for me- eyelid, mini facelift- and he added fat grafting above my eyes that turned out to be a major disappointment. Maybe he had his hay day a decade or so ago... I should have known better, gone with my poor results and never have returned to him for more surgery. Yet, I thought, how difficult can an ear pinning (from previous lift ears stuck out) be? No taping/wrapping of the ears after surgery? Huh? And, all of the infections I continue to have from where my reading glasses sit on one of the sutures. Aren’t the doctors supposed to cover all the bases? How about placing some kind of bandage/bandaid to be changed daily, over the affected area until it fully healed? Is that thinking too outside the box? I’ve learned my lesson, finally. If you can’t find THE BEST in each of these areas (eyes/face/ears/fat transfer) don’t do the surgery...
I wasn't listened to. I said I vomit on painkillers so please don't add them to the propophol! They didn't listen and not only gave me pain killers but didn't give me anti-nausea so I vomited an hour after surgery, popped my stitches because he used glue NOT sutures and I had to immediately return to his office. But he wouldn't see me so I saw his wife who said it'll be fine, but it wasn't. I swelled! & because it was no longer closed properly it healed weird. Then when the swelling wouldn't go down after a week, the only one they let me talk to was someone on staff (the office manager, not a nurse) who gave me wrong advice on how to treat the swelling. Because his staff is sub-par and his anesthesiologist and the doctor himself wouldn't listen I would stay away! I had to go elsewhere to get a revision and paid for surgery twice! No, I do NOT recommend.
Beyond disappointed with results of my lower bleph/fat transfer, and appalled by lack of empathy from doctor and staff. Not terribly obvious (but noticeable) one side of face “cheekier” than the other. Overall by no means an improvement- still look tired. Not one comment from anyone close to me since procedure suggesting I look better, or look more refreshed. Personally feel I looked better before! 10K PLUS later…? Way overpriced. Lost his touch. His lack of concern completely unattractive. Nice upon signing on, when discussing sheer disappointment many months later - Dr. Jelks talked in circles as to the intricacies as to "why" with no solutions or care.
A Park Avenue address does not by any means guarantee quality work and professionalism. I had an upper and lower eye lift- a lower face and neck lift and fat transfer to my cheeks a little over two years ago. The cost of the procedures was nearly $20,000. My eyes and eyebrows are asymmetrical- one side of my face is tighter near the jowl area and I have a deformed tragus. From the beginning of post-op appointments- I expressed concern about these areas. I was told to give it time over and over again. I was told things could be fixed but I would need to pay for it. I would not let him touch my face again. I strongly advise avoiding this doctor for any procedures.
Two years later my eyes are still a mess and my smile is lopsided. My eyes are asymmetrical as is my mouth. The doctor kept saying that I needed to give it more time. It is worse now than before I spent $14500. The office is efficient, the doctor and his wife are very nice but the procedure was absolute disaster. Worst decision I ever made was to let Dr. Jelks operate on me.
Hi Everyone! First, I'd like to thank everyone for sharing their experiences- reading through them helped me tremendously in making an informed decision. On Tuesday, July 14, 2015- I had an upper and lower bleph with fat transfer under the hollow of the eyes and upper cheeks. In addition- I had a lower face and neck lift with suctioning of the jowls and neck. He also cut that pesky muscle which makes the 11 line between the eyes appear- this should alleviate having to put Botox there in the future. My experience so far has been positive. I chose a doctor in NYC who was highly recommended (Dr. Glenn Jelks). He and his staff are very professional and knowledgeable. The procedure went well. I was given local anesthesia and the procedure took about 3.5 hours. After the procedure- I had a great nurse come back to our hotel and she stayed the night. My husband has been wonderful and I don't know what I would do without his love and support. I can't say that I am in pain but right now I feel very uncomfortable. My neck is tight and swollen and my face is very swollen. There is minor bruising but a great deal of swelling on my face- eyes and side of my neck. I am taking all the prescribed meds which include antibiotics- Celebrex- eye drops and ointment- arnica pellets- bromelaine- extra strength Tylenol and Valium at night so I can sleep. I am using a 30 degree wedge pillow and avoiding salty foods. I have also been doing cold compresses. I unsderstand that everyone is different but was wondering if any of you had a good deal of swelling post procedure and if the swelling migrated to different areas of your face and neck as the days passed. Also- can anyone give me a rough estimate as to how long it takes for some of the swelling to subside? Yesterday- my eyes were an angry red color and after sending pictures- the doctor recommended that I ease off the ophthalmic bacitracin because he think I mat be reacting to it. I am going to speak with them today and send more pictures and go from there. I will post some pre-neck photos and side views. I am going to hold off a few days before I send post neck and face pictures because right now I look so swollen. Hopefully- this will subside soon and I can take and post pictures. Again- thanks everyone for your generosity in sharing your experiences! I'm not sure why the photos are posting upside down- any suggestions? Updated on 17 Jul 2015: I'm posting a picture of my neck on day 3. My face is quite swollen so I don't think that part of me is a good representation. I am thinking for day 3- the neck and jowls are looking so much better than pre-surgery. Updated on 19 Jul 2015: Thanks so much everyone for your encouragement and kind words. I see my PS on Tuesday for eye suture removal and on Wednesday for suture removal around my ears. I will report back as to what the doctor says. I'm not in pain just feeling tight and uncomfortable at times. Patience has never been one of my strong suits and I am getting quite the work-out in it these days. It's only 5 days post surgery so I need to remember that and go with the flow. Will post more pictures after suture removal. Again- thanks so much! Updated on 20 Jul 2015: I looked in the mirror this morning and almost recognized myself- lol! Today is day 6- post surgery. My neck and feel very tight but I think it's all part of the process. I have a lump on the right side of my neck but after sending the doctor pictures- he seems to think it's an inflamed muscle. I see him tomorrow so it will get looked at. I'm adding a photo- still quite swollen- but there is improvement. I haven't mastered the selfie thing so one of my eyes look wonky- please excuse the bed-head and lack of make-up. Updated on 27 Jul 2015: Hi Everyone, Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since my surgery. I am feeling much better and can actually see many positive changes. I have had a real issue with overall swelling of the face and eyes which led to a very uncomfortable pressure behind my eyes and temple aches. My doctor prescribed a round of steroids on Friday which has helped the physical discomfort and swelling. I look in the mirror and see me again- but it's a refreshed and younger looking me. Dr. Jelks and his staff have been great and I can now confidently state- this was worth it! I still have the normal after effects of surgery- Dumboesque ears and some jaw numbness but nothing out of the ordinary.
