I’m 39 with two kids. Athletic body but babies and breastfeeding ruined my boobs! I’m only four days post op. Pain is variable and can get bad at the end of the day. So far, Dr Sherbert has been incredible! My first in office follow up is tomorrow. I will update.
I had 3 large babies and my abdominal wall was separated pretty badly. I had quite a bit of loose skin as well. I look like my old self again after my surgery. Dr. Sherbert is talented, kind, and patient. He always takes his time and explains everything about every procedure. The rest of the office is also extremely responsive and kind. I have already scheduled another procedure with him and 3 friends have made appointments for procedures as well.
After a childhood, teen years, and twenties of living in an obese, tired body, I finally started losing weight in spring 2016. It took me more than a year and a half to lose 60 pounds, but I did... going from a VERY tight 14/16, to a comfy 8 (and sometimes 6).The weight loss left a lot of loose, hanging skin on my stomach that would become irritated during workouts and was just generally uncomfortable - especially rubbing against a c-section scar from our first born in 2014. Following the birth of our second child in April 2019, I found it nearly impossible to lose the 15 pounds I had gained, despite working out and healthy eating habits I had established years prior. My abs were so separated and weak, I could barely do a sit up, and was left feeling constantly discouraged by my inability to change much about my midsection. In May 2020, based on a recommendation, I did a consultation with Dr. Sherbert about my diastasis recti, (suspected) hernia, and loose skin - and I never looked back.Dr. Sherbert goes above and beyond to put his patients at ease. His experience is evident by the results of my surgery - I truly feel he is a miracle worker and has changed my quality of life for the better. He and his staff make sure you have all the knowledge you need ahead of surgery for the best possible outcome. They prepare you for what to expect, give you prescriptions ahead of time so everything is set when you return home, and also have an after-hours number to call just in case (although thankfully I never needed it). My surgery included a one night stay at the hospital, and Dr. Sherbert visited before I checked out to see how I was doing and to recap the surgery. My tummy tuck included the removal of 8 pounds of loose skin, and another few pounds of stubborn fat reserves via liposuction on stomach and flanks. I went in thinking I had maybe 2-3 pounds of excess skin, so hearing the real number was both shocking and validating.I had two drains - one was removed around the 10 day mark, and the other around the 2 week mark because the insertion site was becoming irritated and painful. Dr. Sherbert had no problem squeezing me into his busy office schedule to get the bothersome drain removed. The first few days at home were a bit of a blur, but if you keep up on pain medication, they are manageable! I do not like the feeling of narcotics, so I stuck with strong prescription Tylenol for the most part. My husband was so kind and made sure I took something every four hours as recommended, even in the middle of the night. I did my best to get up and walk around every hour or so as directed, although it was admittedly a bit painful and I was stiff/bent.Most of my time was spent in a recliner, sleeping the first few days, then binge-watching Outlander :). I wore a binder 23 hours a day for the first month or so then Spanx or similar the next month. While I know the Spanx helps with swelling and shaping, life is much better once you're able to leave them behind :).I did have one hiccup with my scar that started around the six week mark and took some time to resolve, but Dr. Sherbert was very mindful and informative about the issue, how to address it, and had me come in for more routine checkups to make sure we were on track. Now, the problem has fully resolved. My advice:- Do your homework on your surgeon and choose one with a good track record!! Dr. Sherbert's resume speaks for itself. He is also still always learning, and uses a newer liposuction technology for better results.- Take pain medication as directed, and make sure you're eating.- Have loose-fitting clothes that won't squeeze anywhere.- If you have young children and have someone willing to help, see if they would be willing to take your children for the first few days after your surgery. I believe this was a game-changer for my recovery as my children were away with my in-laws for five days after my surgery.- Take it slow and don't rush it. Listen to your body. There will be days where you swell - A LOT. I had days where I was easily two sizes bigger by the end of the day from swelling, and the swelling can be painful. The more you are on your feet those first few months, the worse it can be. But on the flip side of that, don't let that deter you from moving based on your doctor's recommendations.- When you start working out again, with your doctor's blessing, listen to your body. I had moments of pain and swelling from working out, and tried to carefully wade through it. It does get better!! Sit ups were not as instantly easy for me as some people said, but I believe the extensiveness of my tummy tuck contributed to that - and now that I'm further down the recovery road, they are indeed easier!- Enjoy and DOCUMENT the progress! Take pics often and do side-by-side comparisons for yourself to help you remember how far you've come and that the days of swelling or pain are worth it!As I write this, I am 3.5 months post-op and it was truly the best thing I've ever done for myself. Since the surgery, I have not one struggled to get dressed or felt uncomfortable in my own skin. I am now back to being an 8 (sometimes 10), and hope to lose around 5-7 pounds on my own. My workouts are more fruitful and effective, and my core is all together more stable. If you are in the Metro Detroit area and looking for a surgeon, I cannot recommend Dr. Sherbert at West Maple Plastic Surgery enough. He truly performed a miracle on my body; the results are FAR above and beyond what I expected.Ladies: You do NOT have to justify this decision to anyone! If you believe it will make a big difference in your life, then start looking into this process and deciding if it's right for you.
After much research, I've decided on Dr Sherbert. My consult went well- he put me right at ease and took his time explaining everything. He listened to what I want and also gave me his input on what he felt would work best for me. His staff is equally amazing. Surgery is scheduled for end of July.
My surgery is scheduled for November 12, 2019. I’m having bilateral removal and replacement of breast implants, bilateral revision of breasts and bilateral Mastopexy I have a questionable Breast tissue changes with a positive biopsy. Looking forward to seeing how this is going to turn out. Dr Sherbert is very educated and knowledgeable in this area he comes highly recommended Updated on 17 Oct 2019: Updated on 13 Nov 2019: I was in a lot of pain especially on the right. Dr Sherbert had me stay overnight to get my pain under control. I’m so glad he did. Updated on 18 Nov 2019: Updated on 23 Nov 2019: Healing very well. I’m so happy with my smaller size. Updated on 6 Dec 2019: Day 25. Healing nicely!! I’m very happy.
Had my procedure yesterday. Pain is manageable but gets pretty intense when up and walking. I'm loving my tummy but wondering if my nipples are to low. It's hard to tell with all the swelling. I'd do it again for the stomach but I hear tomorrow day 2po- 5 are the worst so I'm hoping those pass quickly. Updated on 3 Sep 2019: I'm starting out day 4po feeling a lilting better each day. Bowels are starting to wake up as I'm passing gas but no bm yet. Taking Juven and protein shakes to help my body heal. There's itching especially on my sides but I'm not seeing a lot of bruising from lipo. I can't wait to see this new body healed. I'm still sleeping the majority of the time. I go for my one week check on Thursday and if that goes well I may start weaning myself off the narcotics. I'm going to take a shower today so I'll get a pic then. Updated on 5 Sep 2019: I'm feeling really well. Minimal pain and had my first bm last night and another today with no issues. Dr Sherbert did an amazing job and he is such a nice man in addition to his talent. S so far I'm very pleased with my choice of going to him. Still waiting to see if I'll have any sensation in my nipples but that will come with time. I'll update again after my post op visit today. Updated on 5 Sep 2019: Everything looked great. Still lots of swelling but got 1 drain tube removed! Yay. Next one to come out next Saturday if all continues to go well. I'll post a pic after the next appointment as Dr S wlil be removing all the tape so we can see everything. Happy healing everyone! Updated on 25 Sep 2019: I developed a hematoma in my left breast. Had a small seroma drained for the 2nd time today. Dr Sherbert has been very attentive, even messaging me back regarding my concerns during surgery. I had to slow down and be put back on lifting /activity restrictions but I'm moving forward. 4 weeks out this Friday. Dr said the hematoma should heal over the next couple weeks. I'm am very happy with my stomach results so far. Jury is still out on the boobs. Bathing suit pic was 2wpo, breast pic a few days ago at 3.3wpo and clothed pic today 3.5dpo. Please excuse the mess in the bedroom. Updated on 3 Nov 2019: Well my hematoma has healed up pretty well. It took forever for all my scabs to fall off but I was able to take my first bath a couple days ago. It was so nice. Still wish my nipples are higher. I've also got this spot in my upper abdomin that I don't know if it's from the seroma out of its a fast blob. Dr Sherbert told me to massage it and hopefully it will go away but I'm skeptical. I think I might need a little lipo there eventually. Overall I'm extremely happy with the difference. I've sent down 2 pants sizes. Here's my dress before pic and a pic that I took a couple days ago. Updated on 8 Sep 2022: Well I’m very happy with my boobs and pretty happy with my stomach. I still have a small spot on my stomach that will need a revision (possibly from scar tissue or the Serena) but Dr Sherbert is an extremely kind, and talented surgeon. I would trust him with my life (I have) and would recommend him to family and friends. His neatness with his scars is impeccable. He really is the kindest surgeon which is a rarity in finding out. This surgery has changed my life and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.
I have been wanting to write a review for a over a year now. I cannot not tell you enough how AMAZING this doctor is..... I was diagnoses with breast cancer over 2 years ago and was bound by my insurance to only certain doctors...so i was stuck with a plastic surgeon...from hell.....to long to get into...but i was so anxiety ridden because of that doctor...that i finally fired him and looked up Dr Sherbert's website and looked at what insurances he accepts...and went to see him last year....THE FRICKEN BEST THING I EVER DID. He made me feel so safe and comfortable from the minute I met him. I feel so emotional writing this because not only is his bed side manner exceptional...so is his work...he truly is an artist. I would recommend him to anyone.... Thank you , thank you , thank you Dr. Sherbert I will be forever grateful for you. I hope you stay in your field a very long time....just in case i want something done in the future... G Murphy
Dr. Sherbert and his staff put you right at ease. He takes time to answer your questions and address your anxiety. His bedside manner is very soothing. He is meticulous with follow up appointments and making sure there are no complications with healing.
Best bed side manner of any dr that I have ever been to. Ever! Very caring and a true artist! The nurses at the hospital say all the other plastic surgeons wives go to him for their procedures! Very happy patient here!
I couldn't have been more nervous for my procedure. I'm 32, travel frequently and the idea of recovery alone scared me half to death. I heard about Dr. Sherbert (who I just saw is listed by HOUR Detroit as a Top Doc) through a friend who raved about him. I also consulted my nurse friends at Beaumont who all said he was "AMAZING!" I only did one consult with him and knew immediately he was "my guy"! When I had my consult I explained my concerns and he addressed them. I did not feel nervous or scared- his bedside manner is so comforting and informative. After reviewing my situation, I scheduled a Lift, Implant, and Nipple Reconstruction (I had inverted) and he also suggested he Lipo a small area under my armpit to create a clean look. At first I wanted silicone, roughly the 275-250cc range. After more thought, I knew I wanted a tad bit bigger than what I had before the sag and went with something in the low 300 range. I was looking to be a full D, as that's what I was before I went in for surgery. Dr. Sherbert ended up using one 300 and one 325 to even them out. I would be lying if I said this recovery is easy, it's more than I bargained for but totally worth it. There is a ton of swelling- I gained almost 15 lbs of water weight from having the procedure! (Lost it all within 4 days) You're very limited in what you can do- ice yourself every other half hour as much as you can and stay on top of the pain meds! Make sure you have help! Prepare for the car ride home...it hurts! (Bring a pillow!) Will update recovery....so far so great!!!! Updated on 3 Nov 2016: Feeling overall much better than even a couple days ago. I stopped taking pain pills and am feeling somewhat normal. I am starting to get those shocks they described in the discharge paperwork. Not so fun... The scabs on my incisions are coming off now and I am getting excited to have these things settle into a nice pocket! I was a D before with all my extra skin...it's crazy to have that in some kind of shapely form! Really anxious to find a bra that is a little more versatile with clothes...front closure, non wire sports bras that aren't hot pink or black are hard to come by!! By the way- the marks on my breasts are from the bra fabric- another reason I need to find something a little different! The Lipo incisions are the small dots in the pictures. I think these are still swollen because the 325 and 300cc look rather large on me compared to some others! Updated on 6 Nov 2016: I think what's getting most frustrating now is the boredom, constantly asking for help and missing THE GYM! I got hurt late summer and healed about 5 weeks prior to my surgery and then traveled for all but three days the month prior to my surgery. I work from home so that means....I'm kind of tired of myself!! I am loving the progress I'm making but can't wait to get back to working out and getting back into shape! I am still having some soreness- I'm trying really hard to not overdo it. ...Easier said than done. The exterior of my breast is much more healed...incisions really do look incredible (Props to Dr. Sherbert) but the nerve pain is more intense the last couple days and I can tell the bottom of my breast where my largest incision was is still undergoing massive healing. On another note- I did find a couple sports bras but be prepared to have some difficulty! Finding front closure, no wire molded cups was more difficult than I expected!! I can't wait to get out of a sports bra or this surgical thing. #grandma Updated on 8 Nov 2016: So so so excited that I can do a little bit of activity...I asked for a little walk or bike ride because I felt like I was going crazy and so long as I don't break a sweat I can go! Hooray! ???????????????? Another large section of scan came off...incisions are really pretty. So happy with the work! Almost three weeks! Updated on 11 Nov 2016: Woot! Three weeks in the books! Finally feeling loads better! There really is a light at the end of the tunnel! ???????? Next week I get to ...drumroll please......sleep without a super hot medical OR sports bra! I can lift my arms above my head (I can't believe this is even a thing...) and I can even sleep on my side!!! (even though I'm still a wee bit nervous about that). I got a new and exciting massage technique and my breasts are really starting to soften! I am now applying Neosporin versus the ointment they gave me at the hospital...poly-something.... to my nipples and incisions because I find that it helps with some of the uncomfortable feeling. To add to the fun daily boob regimen, Dr. S advised me to start using some lotion...mild, unscented to give the girls some moisture and so far, it's been well received. I'm completely off any pain killers but I was excited to get the go-ahead to use Motrin and, if I want, start back on some supplements. I'm taking some Biotin and heading to GNC tomorrow to see what else can help aid in healing. (If anyone reads this awful long post, and knows of some good stuff...please let me know). I did get a couple extra surgical bras from the office because I've been slowly noticing the ones I had bought outside the office just didn't fit/feel as good and the XL and L ones I was sent home with were a little large in some areas. Once you're accustom to the compression, it's a little weird to go without it. I also find the rubbing I get in some of the sports bras I purchased made me REAAALLLY sensitive around my incisions and especially nipples. (Ouch) To top it off, some of the fabric would get kind of caught on the stitches and even with me trimming them it was annoying. I also was pretty pumped to hear that at my next appointment I'll get some scar patches...can't wait! I can do one room of vacuuming a day and even a load of laundry. Even if he said I could do more...I wouldn't. I'm milking this recovery! After my appointment I headed to Ann Arbor for an overnight work trip. It was nice to be human again and get out of my house (I work from home) but I really should have done a better job icing...Don't forget to ice! Not gonna lie...I did hit up Victoria's Secret because let's be honest...it's exciting! I got some bralettes and a few bras with underwire for a few weeks out...didn't want my colors selling out with the Christmas shopping starting. The girls look stunning! All of you who are thinking of working with Dr. S....he is amazing! Measured at 34D pre op (mostly saggy skin) Now measuring 34DD - still swollen up top 300/325cc (I am not actually wearing these bras yet, just getting tired of posting nekked pics) Hope this helps some of you- still zero regrets and I'm the world's biggest baby! Cheers to Confidence! Updated on 20 Nov 2016: Finally. Hit that four week mark and I'm so glad. Wearing no bra at night and sleeping on my side has made me one happy girl. Scars are slowly fading and I know it takes time but I think they look great. Really pleased with the lack of incision considering how massive my surgery was. Nipples have a couple stitches coming out but they're much less sensitive and feel more comfortable and not so easily agitated. The swelling has really decreased up top and I can see there's more to go but everything is fitting much better and I'm pleased with the size I've chosen! Getting back to the gym, even just doing the bike and elliptical without arms is awesome, too. I've gained a few lbs but I know I'll get that off- surgery was well worth it for me! I started using some essential oils on my scars- frankincense and lavender along with a light moisturizer and Neosporin. I started taking. Ore supplements including biotin and vitamin D. Also taking an oxygen pill to help bring oxygen to the wounds. I'm not sore at all anymore- pain is completely gone. I can tell if I lift too much in my chest...still taking it somewhat easy on the lifting and vacuuming. Updated on 26 Nov 2016: Well I think unfortunately I have a small infection. It isn't overly painful but it's uncomfortable. I think I caused it from working out and having sweated in my bra...even though it was just cycling. I was doing my massaging last night and on the side of my nipple in three spots it was oozing white/yellow infection! Gross. Calling Sherbert today.... Updated on 6 Dec 2016: Everything is going well! Infection is gone, I can wear regular bras and I ordered my silicone scar patches to start wearing! I'm quite confident my scars will almost be gone by time I'm with the treatment! Still not chest workouts and running. Other than that I'm alright with limited arm exercises. Updated on 9 Dec 2016: Silicone Patches are here! Looking forward to seeing how much they help over the next 6-8 weeks!!! Updated on 26 Dec 2016: All is going well. I wear the patches as much as I can and I think I'm finally seeing results! I didn't put them on my Lipo incisions just as a point of reference! Can't wait till I can start running again! Next appointment is mid-January! Updated on 27 Dec 2016: I've had the itch to run for the last few weeks. Partly because I feel huge from not working out and party because I need to get rid of my stress...that wreaking havoc on my skin. I took it slow and just did a 3 mile jog....and felt alright until about 3 hours post workout. I feel a tingly, stinging, warm sensation inside my breast and nipple... ???? Took Motrin and hoping I didn't just set myself back! Updated on 15 Jan 2017: Haven't been able to use the patches as much as I wanted because I keep getting small infections, almost like a pimple on my incision lines....but overall, healing well! Updated on 16 Jan 2017: 34D -- 34DD Updated on 7 Mar 2017: Still battling scars. They seem to get puffy and then go down. Not using silicone strips, using a needle roller now.
