Christopher McClung, MD

I had metoidioplasty with Dr. McClung in 2023. He is an amazing doctor and I would choose him for any surgery or care that I need. He did a fantastic job, especially considering I live multiple hours drive away. He was always extremely quick to respond to my questions, and all of the staff at his clinic are just as kind and responsive!

I chose Dr. McClung as my surgeon because of his supportive and caring nature with my husband's surgery. My husband had several complications and Dr. McClung was dedicated to identifying the problem and working tirelessly for a solution. I knew that, worst case scenario, this was the doctor I wanted at my side. For me, I ran into more problems with insurance and timing of my surgery. Dr. McClung started his private practice in the same few months that I was removed from my parents insurance (due to longstanding abusive relationships). Dr. McClung called me personally, his cell phone to mine, to inform me of the upcoming changes. When I asked him about my cancelation, and the move from Ohio Health to RSA, I believed in the vision Dr. McClung shared with me: a space for transgender specific care that was welcoming, nurturing, and comprehensive. When we finally got a date secured for my surgery, I could not have been more excited.

To back up for a moment- when I had top surgery, I did not experience the instant relief of dysphoria that many folks do. Instead, I had the same feelings of disgust, fear, and rejection of my chest after surgery as I did before. I knew when it came to bottom surgery I wanted a different experience; I put in the emotional and mental work before surgery to prepare myself for any outcome AND try to love my body before surgery, as much as I could. When I met with Dr. McClung to discuss meta vs phallo, he gave me life-altering advice: "If you're not dysphoric, don't have bottom surgery. If you're living in a state of dissociation, that may be something more to look into." Months of therapy later, I came to the conclusion that I needed to have phallo to feel fully whole.

I had phalloplasty stage 1 surgery in March of 2023. It was the best possible outcome, with no complications. I had a UTI several weeks after both catheters were removed... that was it. My graft sites are healing very well, my hand is fully functional, and my penis is incredible. I do feel whole and free. It's difficult to put into words the amount of mental space that opened up for me with dysphoria gone. During the healing process when things got messy, scabbed up, or looked "bad", I had Dr. McClung telling me that everything was healing as expected. I never got tired of hearing that my penis looked amazing! I saw him several times during my hospital stay and he scheduled weekly appointments with me once I was discharged. Around the 2.5 month mark, when I was getting ready to go back to work, his only instruction for me was "Live life, be happy". I really couldn't ask for more than that from him.

I also need to take a moment and share my gratitude for his staff. His wife, and other staff members, put up with many calls from me bugging the office about my insurance authorization. Allicia, his nurse, is about as close to family as a medical provider can get. She makes me and my husband laugh and feel at home any time we step into the office. She also worked tirelessly to submit my paperwork to my employer, regardless of the number of times they "needed more information".

My journey is not complete yet: I have glansplasty at the end of August 2023 and will be pursuing implants after that. However I am past the immediate urgency and pain that was holding me back from the rest of my life. Today I am applying to graduate school, rediscovering hobbies, and investing more intimacy into my relationships with my husband, friends, and chosen family. I am forever grateful to Dr. McClung and his team for their work to bring me home to my own body.

Dr. McClung performed my MtF Vaginoplasty this past March. I started meeting with him last year, and he and his team did a great job in explaining what the surgery would be, preparation for it, and helping point me to the resources to gather the necessary gender confirmation letters for my insurance. They've done a great job working with my insurance for me to ensure coverage and the surgery went by without a hitch!

Dr. McClung himself is extremely calm and has a soothing, gentle voice that helps relieve some anxieties. My family were impressed with how detailed he was when he came out after the surgery to give them the recap and confirm everything went fine (my sister is a nurse and claimed that a lot of doctors she deals with don't go into nearly as much detail, and it was helpful).

Additionally, the staff in his office have been nothing but absolutely polite, and Alicia saved my anxiety during my recovery. She served as the on-call support in case there were any issues during recovery once I got home and, with my anxiety spiking I had thought I'd accidentally removed my catheter. I hadn't, but she helped walk me through how to confirm and calmed me down - at about 4 AM. She did this with no complaints and I can't thank her enough for that!

(Note my total cost was after insurance coverage; I'm not sure what the actual cost ended up being pre-insurance but it was substantial)

Dr. McClung and his whole team are amazing! Doc is full of knowledge and has a wonderful bedside manor. He understands and goes above and beyond with care. I highly recommend Dr. McClung and his excellent team.

McClung is amazing. He is everything you’d want in a surgeon. Confident, kind and gentle. Even if I was nervous, I would always feel much better after hearing from him. After my surgery I was able to text or call and he always responded quickly. The surgery itself went very smoothly and the results have honestly saved my life.

My experience with Dr McClung has been nothing but excellent. He's hands on and reliable, takes his time explaining everything. I'm satisfied with my results, decision and how he handles situations. 10/10 would recommend

I forgot to mention how amazing his communication is. Not only is his communication great his entire staff is on top of it as well. You'll always get a response at least by the end of the work day. Overall him and his team are phenomenal.

Dr McClung is caring, skilled and the best at what he does. He also is extremely communicative and connects with you at all hours of the day if needed. could not have asked for a better dr! Healing went super well and it’s a true testament to his skill

After doing research for my surgery for 5 years . I came across a lot of doctors ,however only a few perform the surgery I needed and nobody in Georgia . I then came across Dr McClung and some of his work on the internet . I then started detail research and talked to Dr McClung and his staff and knew right away I wanted Mr McClung and his staff to help with this huge change in my life . Mr McClung was super nice and so professional, he even helped with a problematic insurance company . From the pre work to post surgery they have been top notch ! I really appreciate everything they have done for me and my partner and grateful to be living my best life .The only thing I would like is for him and his staff to move to Atlanta! Lol!
