Dr. Showalter has been a part of my family’s life since 2015. Since then he’s worked on my mom a number of times for cyst removals among other things. He’s also treated my brother. In 2022 I made a choice to start bettering my life with a trainer. Fixing my relationship with food after being a figure skater for the majority of my life and having two pregnancies my self image was failing me. I lost 55 pounds! By October I knew surgery was going to happen. I live in Maryland, and with my families past history I knew there was only one doctor that I would feel comfortable and confident in his abilities. I planned on a mommy makeover. We met, multiple times and every time he made me feel reassured and confident when I left. Originally I wanted it all done at once and well time lines didn’t line up, and knowing I wanted it done sooner rather then later we broke up the surgeries; and for that I’m grateful! Tummy tuck procedure I totally underestimated. I like to think I have a high pain tolerance but this was next level. Would I do it again now that I’m 3 months out absolutely, but definitely didn’t have my head in the right spot, even though Dr Showalter had warned me and prepared me to the best of his ability. What can I say I’m hard headed. Moving forward I had to wait till March to get my breast augmentation. Something I’ve wanted to do since I was 18. I was way more nervous for my breast augmentation than my tummy tuck. Watching all the plastics shows when I was younger and seeing all the botch jobs had me on edge. I was very up front with him and made sure he had all the things written down if he went in and they didn’t lay right or needed lifting, you name it I made sure he had the ability to do it. Knowing the red tape he would have to jump through. Thankfully they didn’t need a lift the implants did their job but the nipples need to relined. I’m just out of surgery and I’m so beyond ecstatic with how they’ve come out. I can’t stop smiling even though I’m bruised from the boob fat liposuction, and swollen I’m so excited, and only wish I had done it soon. I drove 2 1/2 hours each way to see him and have my procedures done with him, and I would drive across country to use him again. He’s an amazing surgeon and even better human that takes great care of his patients. Updated on 4 Mar 2023: My mommmy makeover included a tummy tuck on 12/14/23. My stomach has always been one of my biggest insecurities and now with my breast augmentation and my tummy tuck completely… I’m beyond thrilled with the results. Will post more pictures after the swelling from the breast augmentation goes down!
My breast reduction experience with Dr Showalter was fantastic. I took multiple before and after pics from this site to my consultation. At first Dr Showalter was hesitant to go as small as I wanted. After more discussion he was completely supportive. Surgery was Feb 17th 2018. After 20 years of buying 34DDD bras that did not fit because my true size was 32I, I can now comfortably fit in a 34C. Bathing suit shopping is much easier and cheaper! Dr Showalter removed 2.5 pounds from my chest. I have never been happier with my appearance. Nipple sensation returned completely after a year. My scars are barely noticable. My only regret is not doing it sooner. Thank you Dr Showalter!
Words cannot express how grateful that I found Dr. Showalter. He is absolutely amazing! Within a few minutes of meeting Dr. Showalter I knew he was the perfect surgeon for me. He is very informative, attentive, compassionate and personable. He listened to my concerns and the specific outcome I was looking to achieve. He then took his time explaining the procedure and possible outcomes and what to expect during and after the procedure. After the surgery he made himself available at all times, including weekends for any questions or concerns. I had the best possible results from the surgery and it is because of the skill of Dr. Showalter. I am beyond happy with my results and the care I received from Dr. Showalter. His whole staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, professional and go above and beyond to help you during the entire process.
I had breast cancer and double mastectomies with reconstruction. My reconstruction is still ongoing, but Dr. Showalter has done a beautiful job thus far. I have over the muscle expanders that will be exchanged for permanent implants next month. During a recent fat grafting procedure (a phase of reconstruction), Dr. Showalter gave me a full tummy tuck that looks even better than I could have imagined. He is a genuinely kind person with a terrific bedside manner. He is serious and thorough, clearly puts a lot of thought into his work.
Life is a wonderful journey, and in this wonderful journey we are bombarded with many choices and decisions, some insignificant and some very significant. So it was for my husband and I over these past few weeks, we had some very significant and possibly life altering decisions to make. Diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 2018 and given all the test results, my plan would be a bilateral Mastectomy. This very significant and difficult decision would lead to several other decisions and choices in the coming weeks, and one being, who might I choose to perform my reconstruction surgery, should I decide to go this route. My Breast Surgeon gave me some highly qualified and highly recommended surgeons that I might want to meet, ask questions and learn more about my options for possible reconstruction. I am sharing with you because I know first hand that this is a very fearful, uncertain and overwhelming time. If sharing my experience about Dr. Showalter and his staff can give you some information that might help make this extremely difficult decision that you are facing, somewhat less challenging, I am so very grateful to help. Prior to my husband and I walking into Dr. Showalter's office, I was very anxious, and I remember talking with my husband and praying, "Lord, If the doctor, takes his time speaking with me, listens to me, answers my questions and makes me feel important" then I will know this is who You would want to do my surgery. Likewise, my husband prayed, unbeknownst to me, if this is who the Lord desires for my wife's surgeon, he will be able to do the surgery on the earliest date given to us by my breast surgeon. From the moment we entered Dr. Showalter's office we felt comfortable, we were greeted by the front office with a smile and genuine concern, we barely had time to sit down and were called to come back to see the doctor. The nurse was equally kind and compassionate. I had my long list of questions and concerns, prepared to ask them all. Dr. Showalter arrived shortly after, and he, my husband and I talked for a very long time, I would say at least 45 mins to an hour about my options, about all my questions and concerns and my husband's as well. After this I was examined and Dr. Showalter talked with us and answered more questions, even some I had probably already asked, we never felt rushed. My prayer had been answered, and then Dr. Showalter offered to move his schedule around to do my surgery on the first available date that my surgeon had given us, we had been told by our breast surgeon's office that Dr. Showalter could only do the surgery on a date in September, this was confirmation for my husband. I did not make my decision that day, Dr. Showalter understood this decision was very important to me, he did not rush me to make the choice, but my time was limited as the surgery date was quickly approaching in a little over a week. He gave us his email and cell phone to contact him with any questions or concerns that we may have thought of later. In a couple of days I emailed Dr. Showalter that I would like him to be my surgeon and he again offered genuine care and concern to help us through this time. My surgery has gone extremely well, Dr. Showalter's professionalism, his surgical ability, his attention to detail, care and concern, has continue through the surgery into the post-op period and during all my follow up appointments thus far. My husband and I are very pleased with the outcome of my surgery and we are forever grateful to Dr. Showalter and his wonderful staff and the continued exceptional care we know we will receive in the months to follow. My husband and I want you know as well the care we have received at Martha Jefferson Hospital has been exceptional, from the MRI, to the lab, to the patient access staff, to the volunteer staff, to the support staff, to the greeters and valet parking staff, the Oncology staff, Genetic Counselor and last but not least the amazing nurses, techs, and support staff in the OR and on the inpatient units, you will be treated with the greatest of care. I pray sharing some of my journey will be helpful for you, and that it might help to ease your burden somewhat during your difficult time. Blessings and Thank you to all, J and B
I was diagnosed with recurring breast cancer this summer. I was forced to look at bilateral mastectomy and then decide if I wanted possible reconstruction. From the first consultation, Dr Showalter and his staff demonstrated professionalism, sensitivity and care for my situation. He is extremely knowledgeable and was able to accommodate my particular needs and wishes when facing an extremely difficult decision in my life. His care and precision during and after surgery gave me the outcome I had hoped for and I believe my speedy recovery is largely due to his individual attention to me as a patient and a person. I am so thankful that he was recommended to me and I highly recommend him.
High, high marks! He is good at what he does and more. He is informative, an excellent surgeon, respectful, sensitive, concerned and listens to and reads people well. If I could say going through breast cancer and then surgery was a good experience, I mean that at age 71 and never experiencing any surgery or hospital stays, this was as comfortable as one could believe. I would recommend Dr. Showalter based on my experience alone although all of the doctors on the cancer team had high praise for him as did the staffs. Need I say more!
My entire experience with Dr. Showalter was nothing but fantastic. Every last question, concern, or curiosity that I had was answered thoroughly and the followups covered everything I needed. The procedure itself went quick, and recovery was easy. I was doing lower body in the gym 6 days later and back to normal in just around 4 weeks. The physical improvement in my chest was incredible, but the psychological side of things and feeling normal for the first time in my life once the gyno was removed made it more than worth it. Anyone who has reservations or questions about the procedure, I can confidently recommend Dr. Showalter as someone who will do his best to make sure you have reasonable expectations and have a thorough job done as well.
After weighting well over 300lbs. I decided enough was enough. I embarked on a weigh loss journey that DID NOT include gastric surgery of any kind. I was not always over weight to that extreme. However, I have always hated my arms. They were huge! As I lost weight they remained the same size. I knew I always wanted to have the skin and remaining fat removed. So I did. I went into this procedure with the mind set of getting what I always wanted smaller shaped arms. I also thought the pain would be minimal. I have always had a relatively high pain tolerance so I figured I would be fine. My Dr told me I would be hurt and well he was right. It hurt the compression was no fun, but after 2 weeks life was better much better. Now 9 months out, I have zero pani ( which pain was gone in a few weeks). I can now wear sleeveless shirts and not worry about how big my arms are. My scar is visible but you really have to have me point it out. I am a red head so my scaring has been tinted red more so than non gingers. But as with everything it gets better over time. I would do it all over again and plan on having other procedures done in the future.
I am a 53 yo woman who came to Dr. Showalter for a breast reduction consultation. I have had heavy breasts since I can remember and had been experiencing debilitating neck and back pain for years. Dr. Showalter was very thorough in his examination, listened carefully to my concerns and needs and explained the options so that I could make an educated choice. My surgery was Oct 27, 2017 and I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Showalter is a consummate professional whose goal is perfection and happy patients. I am happy!
hello, great question. you should check with your surgeon their preference but generally those are medications you would stay on perioperatively without issue. you may also discuss with he/she to changing to Singulair for allergies and stop allegra as singulair has been shown to be beneficial in preventing capsular contracture and is also a treatment for it as well.
I would see a plastic surgeon first to re-examine you to make sure there isn't an issue with the implant, check for a capsular contracture, and decide on further imaging. you may need to get an MRI study to get the best look at the breast tissue and the implant. this is a very sensitive study that may help explain your pain issues but it may also show everything looks fine. nipple numbness can occur after breast augmentation but you may have sustained a nerve injury that is causing your pain issues. if that is the case some medications can help manage nerve pain. hope you find some answers.
your wound doesn't look like its opening. you look like someone who may have issues with hypertophic scarring or early keloiding and if that is the case you should be supplementing your healing with things like silicone sheeting on your incision and possibly steroid injections to the scar. your surgeon should be able to assess this on exam and help guide you in that decision.
Either way is possible but it would be an easier recovery on you to do the BBL, labia plasty and thighs first and then come back for TT and breast later. the main issue I would argue here is that you cant put pressure on the buttock for a couple weeks after BBL and begin able to lay on your tummy will make that easier. if you have BBL and tummy positioning after surgery is very tricky. hope turns out well!!
hello; based on your pictures you would need a tummy tuck with liposuctioning and muscle repair to give you a nice result. hope it turns out well for you!
