I went into Smile Direct to get my scans done on 03/11/2020. Within 3 days my 3D treatment plan was uploaded for me to see. Initially I was suggested a 4 month plan but was concerned with the outcome so I decided to request a longer treatment plan to ensure I would end up completely satisfied with the outcome. Smile direct was able to update my plan with a new 3D scan that I loved in 5 days and I decided to go through with treatment. Updated on 22 Apr 2020: My aligners arrived on Monday 04/20 and I popped them right in because I was so excited to start. The first time putting on the aligners was a uncomfortable but not unbearable feeling. I felt the pressure on my front two teeth instantly I believe this tray is working on the projection of my front two. I kept the aligners in until dinnertime and it wasn't until I took the aligners out that the pain hit me. Again it was painful but not unbearable trying to bite down was also painful so I decided to eat small bites with my back molars. Day 2 with the trays went way bettter. I could tell the tray loosened up some and in the morning time when I took the trays out to brush it did not hurt. I felt slight pressure on the front teeth but nothing compared to the first day. I was able to eat better but still used my back teeth because of the slight pressure feeling on the front two when I bite down. I have attached pictures of Day1 and a picture of my teeth without the aligners off and on. Updated on 22 Apr 2020: I noticed I didn’t share my 3D scans with you all so here It is. As you can see the most work needs to be done to my top 4 teeth. And one tooth on the bottom needs to be pushed in place. First three pics are before a and last too are expected end results Updated on 27 Apr 2020: My week 1 trays went well, after day 3 I had very minimal to no pressure. I had no trouble sleeping with aligners or taking them out to eat and drink. However on day 6, I started to feel a gap forming between my third and 4th top tooth. So I revisited my 3D scan and noticed they are creating a gap to push second and third tooth forward. Kind of annoying because I didn't want new gaps but hey at least the gap will be hard to notice since its more toward the back of my mouth and hopefully it wont be big. Today is my first day of week 2. So far so good. Putting on the new aligners there was some pain to my front teeth but again nothing unbearable. From what I experienced with my first tray on day 1 I know that I will probably feel the pressure most when I take it out to eat. Updated on 11 May 2020: So today is day 1 of week 4 I have been wearing my current tray since last Monday I have to wear this tray for two weeks total. Since I have to wear this tray for longer I decided to use the cleaning tablet that comes in the smile direct box to clean my aligner and It worked amazing. All you do is put your aligners in a cup put one tablet in the cup and add water. Those tablets work magic my aligners are sparkling clean ! Only downside is the box only comes with 4 so you have to use them wisely. Other than that all is well can’t wait to see some changes :) Updated on 18 May 2020: So first month went well. The last aligner tray I wore for two weeks instead of 1. I haven't seen much change yet but I know a noticeable difference comes around month 4. I decided to start my month 2 aligners before bed because I knew they would be very tight when I first put them on,since I just wore one tray for two weeks.AND BOY WAS I RIGHT !! Pain subsides after about 10 mins but that initial pressure is rough. Updated on 2 Jun 2020: All is well. I am almost at the finish line of month two. At first I didn’t think I saw much change but when I compared my first aligner with the aligner I have in now I do see the work that has been done. My front gap is starting to get close and the bottom tooth which was shifted out of place is moving in Updated on 2 Jun 2020: I am on month two week 3 and decided to post a side by side to show the progress made so far Updated on 23 Jul 2020: I did not realize how bad my teeth originally were until now Updated on 23 Jul 2020: Here’s a updated side by side
Dr. Danny Blaine Leeds was the dentist who oversaw my Smile Direct Club treatment. I have had nothing but hassle for the duration of my treatment (18+ months). I could never speak directly to him about my concerns. It's always someone on the "team". He has "approved" me for 3 treatment plans now. The aligners always end up not fitting after I have worn the first few sets as prescribed. They had to be filed down because they have protruding parts that cut my cheeks and gums. They started popping off my teeth because of poor fit. How many chances should I give him and SDC before it becomes "fool me once, shame on you; fool me four times, shame on me"? If you were in person instead of out of state, would you provide your clients with the level of treatment you provided to me?
