Hi, I'm having a mastectomy with reconstruction next week (no implants or anything, just a closure with some rearrangement of the skin to prevent concavity). I struggled a lot to quit smoking. My doctors told me two weeks and I tried really hard, and I got down to half a cigarette a day (zero some days) all last week. I'm a very light smoker. But tonight I messed up and had half a cig 3 times . . . I'm only 32, is the risk significant? I just had a 3 day streak of 0 ...
Hello, I am planning on getting a breast reconstruction done. One of my breasts is genetically very small and I have to get a tissue expander before switching to implants in future. As far as I know im not to smoke cigarettes for at least 2 weeks after the operation. But is it ok if i smoke during the time im having the saline injection sessions? The injection sessions are scheduled to start 2 weeks after the surgery.
I had 5 or 6 cigarettes 13 days before my breast lift/augmentation surgery. I'm not a regular smoker, just socially. I go weeks, if not months, without cigarettes. I was wondering should I be concerned that my handful of cigarettes almost two weeks prior to surgery could affect my results. I know the risks just wondering if I crossed that threshold where I should be concerned.
Did not have any issues with expanders, and waiting for exchange to implants. BUT i started smoking again 3 months after mastectomy/ expanders placed , in expansion now, and up to a pack a day again. Worried what this will do to my outcome if I don't get my act together and quit now? Exchange will be about 6 to 8 weeks from May 31st. I told my doctor and he is concerned as is everyone around me. For some reason I don't feel the urgency to quit like I did when I was going to have Mastectomy. Fill me in.
I had a single mastectomy 2 years ago. I had breast implants when I was 26 years old, i'm now 60. I was informed that because I smoke insurance companies would not pay for me to have reconstruction on my breast that was removed or a new implant to replace the other one. Thank you for your time.
