A Face Lift Without the Surgery? Meet the M Lift

Whether it’s within the walls of my practice or out in the media, I hear it all the time... No one’s got time for surgery. And with the growing list of non-surgical options to refresh and rejuvenate the face, we both know which method comes out the winner.

The fact is, non-surgical treatments require very little, if any, downtime. As a busy surgeon, I get it. It’s hard to find time for anything extra in our packed daily schedules. At the same time, a little Botox (or energy or skin treatment) on it’s own isn’t going to provide anything close to the result that a surgical facelift can. Still, for those patients who are willing to accept a little less of a result, it is possible to get something close to a facelift completely surgery-free. In my practice, I call it the M Lift.

The M Lift is an approach that combines multiple non-surgical treatments to achieve overall facial rejuvenation by targeting key facial aging concerns: a sagging neck, deflated cheeks, tired eyes, and mottled or dull skin. Using energy treatments, including Ultherapy and lasers, and injectables, it is possible to provide total facial rejuvenation for the patient who doesn’t need or want a surgical facelift but is looking to freshen up his or her appearance. The beauty of these combined treatments is that they can all be performed safely and effectively during a single office visit in less than 90 minutes.

The Neck

The ultrasound power of Ultherapy effectively lifts and tightens an aging neck. It can also be used to give a little lift to the face.

The Cheeks

As the face ages, it loses volume, causing the midface (cheeks) to fall. Fillers, such as Voluma or Sculptra, can restore volume to the cheeks, thereby creating a lift.

The Eyes & Brow

Botox and Dysport soften lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), on the forehead and between the eyebrows (glabella), and can be used to create a youthful eyebrow arch by "lifting" the brow.

The Skin

Whether it’s a light chemical peel or aggressive laser treatment, the finishing touches to non-surgical facial rejuvenation take place with the skin. The method and level of correction is determined based on each individual patient’s needs.

Is the M Lift Right for Me?

While surgery will likely remain the gold standard for many treatments, new approaches and combined techniques, such as the M Lift, can deliver a near-surgical result for my patients who may not yet need surgery but are starting to show signs of aging—a tired or worn out appearance—or those who simply can not or choose not to have a surgical procedure.

As for post-treatment recovery, in general, you can expect to see some redness and swelling from your skin resurfacing treatment. On average this could last for about 3 to 5 days, but it ultimately depends on how aggressive your skin treatment is. Fortunately, a little redness won’t keep you out of the game for long. Initial results can be seen in as soon as 1 to 2 weeks, with results continuing to improve over the next couple of months.
