J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FACS

(see 10 photos below) After losing about 250 pounds from a starting weight of over 400, I hit a new challenge I honestly didn’t expect to struggle with so much... loose skin. Clothes didn’t fit right, exercise didn't feel good, and I honestly still felt FAT, despite having a healthy BMI... Ugh. I started looking into surgeons who really understood working with people after massive weight loss. I was willing to fly anywhere in the USA to get it done. I spent weeks going through photos, reading reviews, and watching videos. That’s how I found Dr. Katzen. Practically everyone in his before & after pics looked nicely sculpted, no matter their starting weight, and this really stood out to me. After watching his Instagram for a period of time, I finally met him for a consultation. He was warm, kind, and easy to talk to. It was a great first impression. He listened carefully and explained everything. I even asked if he could give me a more feminine "bikini cut", and he understood completely what I meant by that (look at my pic). My surgeries were divided in 2 parts: Surgery #1: 360 Lower Body Lift + Arm Lift Surgery #2 (30 days later): Thigh Lift + Torso Lift I flew to Los Angeles for both surgeries. In total, Dr. Katzen removed about 13 pounds of skin (8 pounds was from the body lift alone.) He also made sure I was recovering well in between surgeries. The whole process went incredibly smoothly. The anesthesiologist was really nice (which meant a lot to me because I’m NOT great with IVs), and the surgical center was clean & organized. After each surgery, I stayed two nights at Aura Recovery, where the nurses were amazing. Dr. Katzen actually came to check on me both days (something the staff kept telling me that most surgeons they work with don’t ever do). The first few days were really rough, especially having to walk for the first time, but the pain meds made everything manageable. After the 2 nights at Aura, I moved to a nearby hotel with a kitchen for about a week, using a motorized lift recliner chair that I rented through one of Dr. Katzen’s recommended vendors. That recliner turned out to be a total lifesaver for getting in and out comfortably. If you're getting a body lift or thigh lift, I HIGHLY recommend getting it. Write it off as part of the necessary experience. Trust me. I can't imagine doing it without one!! I saw Dr. Katzen one last time before heading home so he could remove my drains. It didn’t hurt at all, THANK GOD. I’d been so nervous about that part, even more than the actual surgery if you can believe it, but honestly, I barely felt a thing. Half of them came out without me even noticing, and the rest just felt like a quick little tickle. I was so relieved. I even filmed the drain removal and shared it on my YouTube channel. I waited almost a year to write this review. It's been around 10 months since my 1st surgery (body lift & arms) and 9 months since my 2nd surgery (thighs & torso). I wanted to carefully monitor my long term progress and recovery. Looking at my results, I just don't think this could have turned out any better. I couldn’t be happier. My clothes fit right, my posture feels better, and I feel confident in my skin again... something I haven’t felt in years. I'm living my best life now. I'm traveling the world, going on hikes in the mountains, walking along sandy beaches, meeting new people wherever I go. In those moments, I often think of my experience with Dr. Katzen can’t help but look up and feel grateful for how far I’ve come. The people at his office were incredible, too. They treated me like family. Supportive, kind, & genuinely caring. I even stay in touch with a few of them and check in every few months to say hello. If you’re thinking about skin removal after major weight loss, I can honestly say Dr. Katzen was the right choice for me. He’s talented, compassionate, and thorough. I’m beyond grateful. I hope my photos speak for themselves & show what’s possible. Life’s too short to feel uncomfortable with your body. Take the leap. DO IT. It's worth it.

I first received silicone injections in 1997. In 1999 I started administering injections myself ignorant to the complications and dangers that silicone injections would cause later. The complications for me started in 2012. After serving time in prison for illegal injections, I started researching Doctors to begin my removal process. My initial thought was to go out the country but many Drs will not remove up to 95% of the product and I felt I needed to stay in the states in the event of complications. Also many doctors in the US will not see you for a follow up visits. If you have had the procedure out of the country. I met with many Dr’s in the US as well but never felt comfortable with any until 2023 when I was introduced to Dr Katzen. He knew I was a former injector but never judged me. I knew immediately that he was the one do my surgery. From the first encounter with him I was sold! At my first appointment upon entering the office his staff was super nice and very attentive. Then enters Dr Katzen and his energy is like a breathe of fresh air. After spending time with him and learning about which procedure would be best for me (which was the open technique) I knew he was the one that I could trust. I had to have quite a bit of tests done before I could be approved have the procedure. I was very nervous the day of the procedure but before the surgery, he came in and LITERALLY held my hand and reassured me that he would do his absolute BEST to make sure that I was pleased with the outcome. That’s all I needed to hear. He was so confident that I couldn’t help but feel the same way. My healing journey was emotional and full of ups and downs. Dr Katzen and his staff were there every step of the way. I couldn’t have asked for better experience during the recovery journey. Listen to Dr Katzen and the staff! Whatever he suggests and instructs you to do, DO IT! He knows what’s best. My butt isn’t perfect without clothes but with clothes I look GREAT! I made a conscience decision not to do a reconstruction because I overcame the insecurities and low self esteem while dealing with the disfigurement of my butt. I had a wonderful experience from start to finish with Dr. Katzen. I had fat transfer to my hands and VASER arm liposuction, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Dr. Katzen is extremely warm, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable. His bedside manner is outstanding—he’s kind, authentic, and makes you feel comfortable every step of the way. His office staff is also amazing. They are responsive, caring, and answered every question I had right away, which gave me such peace of mind throughout the process. Dr Katzen and his staff are amazing! From my first consult through all of my post surgery appointments, everyone was incredibly kind. Dr Katzen is truly amazing at what he does, and genuinely cares about his patients. He gave me a great tummy tuck after I had lost almost 100lbs, and I am very happy with my results. When I had a minor complication, he and his lovely staff were incredible, and regularly followed up with me to make sure everything was ok. I moved out of state and he and his staff still called and emailed frequently to check on my recovery. I can’t thank him and his staff enough for their care! If you decide to go with Dr Katzen for your procedure, you won’t regret it!

I can’t tell you how lucky I feel to have found this doctor for my plastic surgery after losing 178 pounds. Not only do I look phenomenal, but the process was more less daunting than I anticipated. The doctor is always available and his team is super responsive. I researched plastic surgeons and it paid off. I had a 360 lower body lift and a crescent, high lift and an arm lift And he schedule them all for me so I could leave for home the UK soon sooner than I thought. I had surgery with Dr. Katzen in November. It’s about to be three months. I could not be happier. Dr Katzen and his staff are godsent. I had biopolymers for 14 years with significant migration to the groin and down the legs. Dr Katzen removed 92% of the product. In my case, 95% of it was in the fatty tissue. I no longer have any symptoms. No itching, no warmth in the area, no discomfort when sitting or wearing certain clothes. I stayed in LA for three weeks although he requires 10 days. I wanted to be there until at least two of the drains were removed, but you are safe going home with them. When the drain output is low enough at home, Dr. K will be on Facetime with you instructing you(family member) on how to take them out. I had 4 drains in total, one in each buttock and one in each leg. The day before flying home, we were able to have the two on the left side taken out. I didn’t stay at an aftercare, they said it wasn’t necessary for this procedure. I took my husband and my parents with me and even them three were hands full. You will need at least one person with you all the time. You will have a bladder catherer, you will have drains for 3+ weeks, you will generally be facing down the whole time for around 4 weeks, at around 2 weeks he will tell you that you can start going on your sides a little bit. You won’t be allowed to shower until drains are removed and incisions are fully closed, in my case a month. But all of this will be worth it because you will have healthy glutes, healthy body overall and healthy mind. Your immune system will thank you. If you need to get this surgery done, Dr Katzen is your best choice, he has more than 15 years experience doing this procedure. After surgery, he and his staff will be a phone call away the whole time.

Dr. Katzen really cares about his patient's wellbeing and really does the best he can to give you the best results possible. His whole team is amazing and so sweet and are always there to answer any questions you may have (pre/post-surgery). Dr. Katzen is truly present (and does the best he can to break down procedures so you can understand) with his patents and is also so helpful post-surgery on how to properly clean the wounds etc. I am post-op almost 2 months and I am healing amazing and are guided by a whole team (POP RECOVERY) who is supporting me in so many ways (mental health, wound specialist, recovery coach, nutritionist, etc.). I Love Dr. Katzen and are so greatful I found his talent; this man truly changes lives.
