Heart Health: Cholesterol

These are desirable cholesterol levels:

1. Total Cholesterol : Less than 180

2. LDL Cholesterol : LDL is the low density lipoprotein. It is the "bad cholesterol".

Less than 120 for healthy individuals

Less than 100 for those with risk factors of heart disease

3. HDL Cholesterol : HDL is the high density lipoprotein.

HDL is the "good cholesterol" and provides significant "protection" against the development of heart disease if levels exceed 50.

HDL levels between 40 and 50 confer some protection against the development of heart disease.
