Tanning and wound healing

It is best not to tan for 6 months and even up to a year after any surgical procedure as the tanning process darkens the skin and the wound(s). Once the tan fades, the wound tends to retain the discoloration.

I am constantly reminding my patients not to tan for at least 6 months and to apply at least SPF 50 and recommend even higher SPF skin protection products in the sunny months of the year.
