Iron supplements and sclerotherapy -

At the Vein Treatment Center and Santa Monica Vein Center we ensure that patients avoid iron supplementation during sclerotherapy and for one month after sclerotherapy. Why? Studies done by Drs. Thibault and colleagues have shown that it reduces hyperpigmentation as it increases serum ferritin levels.

Ferritin is a protein found inside cells that stores iron so your body can use it later. A ferritin test measures the amount of iron in your blood. The amount of ferritin in your blood (serum ferritin level) is directly related to the amount of iron stored in your body.
