I was diagnosed with right intra-ductal breast...
I was diagnosed with right intra-ductal breast cancer in November 2012. Right from the start I knew I wanted both breasts removed and reconstruction to minimise chances of recurrence. Unfortunately in NSW that's not part of the immediate treatment offered, however, my breast surgeon was aware and once chemo was finished she recommended Alex Phoon and I have never looked back. I first met Alex about 2 years ago to start discussing options - I never went for a 2nd opinion as he is so personable, open and inspiring, I trusted him immediately. And it was well-placed. I had my reconstructive surgery in October '14, followed by nipple replacement and revision just before Easter this year. Alex has always answered my questions honestly, made me aware of potential side effects and the post-operative care from him and his team at the Mater and from his Clinic has been fantastic. I can't recommend Alex and his team highly enough. Due to the way Alex performs the nipple reconstruction I will not be having my nipples tattooed as the delineation and difference in colour has made it unnecessary.

I had 3-4 pre-surgery visits with Alex to discuss the surgery and finalise details, and post-surgery (both) he visited every day (apart from 1 weekend when his co-surgeon visited). This was followed by weekly follow-ups until my stitches/drains were removed. I never felt rushed, or reluctant to ask questions, in fact in one of my early visits I took pictures of what I didn't want to look like, and Alex was very re-assuring. He is a lovely, kind person, and a confident, experienced surgeon who treats you has a person, not an incision.
