Day 12-14

Realized I was running a low fever. A visit to the doctor suggested part of my incision might be getting infected. Back on antibiotics and feeling better fast. Drain sites still wildly uncomfortable.

Day 7-12

One day I’m up and the next day down. I am much more active on the up days. Even had a friend take me out for a cup of coffee. Felt like a normal person for a couple hours. Having to drink gatorade every day to fend off the dry throat and some feelings of weakness. An RN friend told me that the gallons of water I was drinking we’re not enough because of the electrolytes I was losing through my drains. Speaking of drains, the drains sights are very painful and my compression garment is rubbing on them constantly. They told me I still may have the drains for 2 more weeks. Arg!Had a low grade fever all day yesterday. Felt like the truck that hit me during surgery, hit me again. Doctor said there are no other signs of infection so we are holding off on another course of antibiotics for now.

Day 4-7 Post Op

Pain is manageable with Tylenol and Advil. My back is getting very sore from the lack of activity and the tightness in the front. The drains are very cumbersome and at times painful.

Dr. Hardesty spent more time with me during the initial consultation than any of the other doctors I’d met with. He provided a wealth of detailed information. He seemed genuinely excited to help me. Sometimes he sounds like he is on autopilot in his responses so I’m not always convinced he is listening closely but I’m chalking that up to a quirk. So far my experiences have been all positive. He held my hand the morning of surgery and was reassuring. His support staff has been kind, gentle and patient during my follow up visits and numerous phone calls.
