I am interested in publishing data on sculptra patients who have had lumps after 5 years. I think the only way that doctors will know about this is if this is published in the literature. I would encourage any patient who has had sculptra treatment over 5 years ago still with visible lumps to contact me

Ok first round invisable lumps in my mouth. Last week had another round of injections and now have small raised circular lumps in my temple area. OMG this cosmetic derm is my cousin and how could she embed this into my temple rather than deep tissue. Now Im worried that all the rest of those injected sites will sprout visable lumps and Ill turn into a horror show. Obviously they cant disappear or be treated effectively. Im a victim who'll just have to wait and see just how bad this is going to present in the months to come.Feeling sick over this and terrified as well.Im angry at the FDA, the Dr. and my own stupidity as I never checked this all out before hand. Now Ill be the one who'll be eating crow for a long long time. Are those invisable lumps in my mouth going to burst forth? Will they cause cancer? What have the biopsied lumps shown?

Thanks Tried but Failed. No you did not fail, you are just honest, smart and what is wrong you are not in a position of power to steer this out of control ship around, but you TRIED. The sad truth is more woman will have to be harmed so whoever is in charge at the FDA isn't in charge any longer and is held accountable, No simple loss of job will not be enough. Sorry Bernie. Sanofi Aventis/Dermik cannot be allowed to do knowingly harm, feed inaccurate information for shareholder profit.

It might interest you all to know that the FDA recently approved Sculptra Aesthetic. It was approved on 28 July 2009. See http://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/ProductsandMedicalProcedures/DeviceApprovalsandClearances/Recently-ApprovedDevices/ucm176124.htm This means that it is not just approved for facial wasting in HIV+ people. It also means Sculptra is no longer 'off-label' for general cosmetic use. Note the 'Delayed reactions include small bumps and lumps' - that hardly seems enough of a warning to cover the experiences described on this website. How has this happened? I have no direct experience with Sculptra and even I think the FDA approval is diabolical. There will be more victims. PLEASE REPORT YOUR SIDE EFFECTS AND ADVERSE OUTCOME WITH SCULPTRA/NEW FILL TO THE FDA. The link for online reporting to the FDA is: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/medwatch-online.htm You can remain anonymous. If you live in Australia, please also make a Blue Card report to the TGA online at: https://www.ebs.tga.gov.au/ebs/ADRS/ADRSRepo.nsf?OpenDatabase

Hi everyone, It seems these people are getting away with the damage they have caused us all through these lumps. My lumps thankfully havnt got any worse but no better either and are noticable. I was distraught at first but have been on anti depressents for the last 2 months so i am feeling a little better in my self that is until i look in the mirror and become really upset again.I would love to get justice for everyone suffering from this problem bt would not know how to go about it, any ideas? keep in touch and let me know if anyone finds a successful solution as I am sure we would all love to hear about it. Karen..

Sorry Karen, There has been days again recently when the pain under my eyes is so intense, I just lash out. Truly sorry.. I have now spent an additional,$795. in consultations about removal. Some of the MDs were kind enough to not charge because they couldn't do anything to help. One did recommend a lower under eye blep (sp?) which I am so glad I didn't do, there is such intense inflammation under my eyes it probably would have harmed me more. It was recommended my a real dermo, I see an oral surgeon to remove the lumps in my mouth and have them biopsied. Now I have to come up with that money and I am now bearly employed. I have been living with these uncomfortable lumps in my mouth for that reason. All this because I got sales pitched by a p.s. for something I never needed in the first place. I never had a medical doctor harm me before, so I was so naive, I just turned over my trust. Than the drug company turns and blames the doctor who they sold this inject able to. I know I often have turned into some angry woman a lot of the time because of all this unnecessary pain absurb expense, the first treatment did nothing, when I complained the md said, I needed just one more treatment, he underestimated and than I would see this 'new collagen' what a line of bull. What I did see was the beginning of a nightmare plus add to this my once nice looking face disfigured for dollars. This guys really need to have their licenses taken away. This drug company actually caused disease and seems to be getting away with that. Scammed the FDA. All this because I walked into some doctors office for a free consultation on a lark. I never even knew this stuff existed and truly wished I never walk into his door. It has changed my life in the most negative way.

Hi Karen, The FDA is the American regulatory body for, among other things, cosmetic injectables. When a company creates a new injectable product, the FDA investigates it and tests it to determine if it's generally safe for use, and for what purposes. The process is called "FDA approval". However, injectables can be used "off-label", which is not illegal but means using them in a particular way that has not been regulated by the FDA. For example, Sculptra is FDA-approved for facial fat loss in HIV+ patients, but it is frequently used off-label as a cosmetic filler. Hope this helps, --Sharon

FDA = Food and Drug Administration. Search the net and see what they supposed to be doing to "protect" us.....

Greed. To sum it up in a word.
PrettyInShockingPink 12 Jan 2009
Karen, are you serious, truly? Are you on the internet and cannot figure out what the meaning of the F.D.A.? If you need help I will help you, if you are from the drug company I will also know that immediately. End of story. Michelle P.

I really wish i hadnt started to read any of this now. I am really frightened as to what the future will bring. I am also in debt, I paid for the treatment via a credit card and i am still paying this off so there is no way i can pay for any further treatment. Can i just ask what is the FDA.I really feel as though i want to take a knife to my face myself!! I am devastated with my results as many of you are too. How can this be allowed. Karen

The FDA is now holding hearings about this... I hope the laws will be changed this year. I too have suffered at the hands of Sculptra. There's lots of money out there to be made - and this system is faulty bc if the doctor screws up or injects you with something untested, you have no rights to get your $$ back, or sue for damages. That, is quite a money making scam. I am in debt over my head from not being able to work for 1 year due to looking absolutely strange from this stuff and my body reacting to the poison making me physically ill. Also, the medical bills from other consults with doctors who tried to find a solution for me. Anyone reading this, please, please beware.

My next step in the "nightmare" search to remove polylactic acid from underneath my skin's surface a/k/a my face is a biopsy on the round, hard formations, inside my mouth. These 'no serious side effects injections', have altered my once normal tissue. After the biopsy (which will hopefully, I pray, not turn up even more serious problems), will be finding an Oral Surgeon to remove the damaged tissue. I am very dismayed, (a little understatement here) about what the 'injected' are now subjected to. It is not only about the visible damage, which is hard enough to handle, it is about what lies beneath the surface. Speaking of Lies, I got a copy of my rewritten medical notes. Worst than the Medical Doctors who inject, if there could be worse) are the very brilliant minds of the "boys and girls" at the drug company. My head is still spinning when I research more and more about the fast one they pulled on the FDA advisory panel.

Thanks for the vote Ringside! Here is my update: I am past the one year mark of my first injection (I've had two). I've had 7 V-beam treatments and 1 Fraxel treatment. My bumps are definitely getting smaller and softer. I can actually flatten them, using massage, but eventually they plump back up! I truly believe they have become pliable thanks to the V-beam laser treatments. There is a definite difference in bump size in my photos. Because no one that I have talked to says these bumps go away on their own, I believe that these bumps are getting smaller because of the v-beam. Someone on one of these posts said something regarding facial edema, I had not read that anywhere, but I believe that is what is going on under my left eye. There is a long noodle-like bump under my left eye, but there is also swelling that increases and decreases depending on my hydration level. I'll be going back for my 8th treatment next month & I will keep you notified!

You poor thing... I suppose you are having to pay for this out of your own pocket??? This is unforgivable. Have you notified the FDA? I am going to ..... Ringside

How do i go about notifiying the FDA and although I may seeem completely stupid what does the FDA stand for? Like you I have also lumps and swelling to my face after havin sculptra between nov 07 and april 08 and i am also still paying off the treatment on a credit card. All i seem to d at the moment is cry.. I had the treatment initialy as my confidence and self esteem were really low and now i just want to hide away. Why do we do such things? karen
ringside 22 Dec 2008
I agree with you! It has been a year for me now.. 2 separate sessions, 2 unmoving lumps.. Don't go back. This is bad bad stuff. Ringside

Had 2 injections 6 weeks apart, 2 weeks after the 2nd injection felt a lump in front of right ear, pain along both cheeks where the injections were. Ultrasound finds enlarged "lymph node". Questioned MD who did the Sculptra, does this stuff travel, cause pain, of course she says no, never heard of that, but this can't be coincidence. Am living with constant aching pain in face and would never do this again, MD wants to do 3rd set of injections, I told her no. Am mad at myself for spending all this money and having poor results, pain, and lumps. This product should be recalled.
