I had never used foundation on my face so when two tiny broken capillaries showed up on my face I didn’t want to cover them up with make up. I went to the place that I usually go for beauty procedures and they suggested 2-3 IPL treatments. I had done laser hair removal before so I was concerned about pain and hyper pigmentation. They said they would use a strong numbing cream and they would use a low setting to not cause dark spots on my mid tone olive skin. On the day of the appointment, I felt some burning on my chin more than any other place and it continued/intensified afterward. I iced it all afternoon after I got home. The next day the face looked like it was burnt. My faced looked as bad as all those scary pictures you see on the site. For the next 5 days, while the spot were surfacing, the chin was covered with a thick scab like it was recovering from burn. After 10 horrible days, when the skin almost cleared up, I had two big brown spot on both sides of my chin, in addition one side had a burnt texture to it. Then I noticed that my chin would scratch and bleed with any tiny pressure!!! I was told to use a bleaching cream and keep it moisturized and it would get better. A month after the first appointment, I did my second IPL. I had less visible signs this time and the final result was that the dark spots looked 10% smaller and lighter, but definitely there even if the photo won’t show them clearly. But the thinness of the skin and its texture was not (and still is not) resolved. A few days back, I went to see the doctor at the same place and she recommended a chemical peel to deal with Melasma and prescribed ELIDEL 1% (comes with warning for cancer risk after prolonged use) to help with the skin texture! I said no to chemical peel until the skin issue was resolved.
So $1000 later ( two IPLS, bleaching creams, RX) and I am dealing with melasma and skin thinness that I didn’t have before I started. My broken capillaries are still there and now I wear foundation to cover them as well as my chin spots and hope that I don’t need to use the cancer causing cream for too long! What a mistake.

I wish they had told me that there was a risk, I would not have done it if they said there was a small chance! Specially that the broken capillaries were not fixed at all.
