I bad my little boy 7 years ago and after a not so straight forward birth slimmed down with ease. Nearly 4 years ago I had my little princess. Again a not so straight forward birth and at 9lb 13oz I ended up with an emergency C section. My weight was at it's highest and 9 months after having my daughter I was 183lb (13 stone 1lb). Over 3 years my weight yo yo'd and last year at 166lb (11st 12lb) I decided enough was enough. I still looked about 7 months pregnant. I started an extremely strict diet and exercise regime. I lost approx 25lb in 6 months. Yet my 'pregnant stomach' hadn't really shrunk. I now looked about 5 months pregnant. I researched and discovered that I had separated stomach muscles and visited my g.p. Jump forward 4 months later I had a consultation with a plastic surgeon and was booked in for my surgery. I never doubted it was what I wanted and needed to happen. My op took over 3 hours and when I came round It was surreal. I couldn't believe I'd had it done. I was in hospital for 5 days as one of my drains kept draining over 30mls a day until the last day when it stopped at 12mls. I was over the moon to be going home. The pain and discomfort of the drains (in my opinion) was the most awful part. That is until I laughed or sneezed!!!! Wow! Try not to do either of those. Even with liquid morphine that hurts. Many times I thought I had bust my internal stitches and I was so paranoid about keeping the wound clean and preventing an infection. It took over my life a lot in the first few weeks. I must stress that you must rest as much as you can. The longer you rest the quicker you will heal. That doesn't mean don't get out of bed. Just don't overdo it on any way. I took 5 weeks off work in total and I was tired and could feel my stomach swelling more as the day got on when I did return to work. So had to make sure I rested when I got home. I am now just short of 3 months post op. The response I have had from people has been amazing. I would say it is one of the hardest experiences I have ever gone through. Now I am out the other side i don't regret a minute of it. I have the exact result I wanted and I love my new flat stomach. I have my first post op appointment with my consultant in 2 weeks and I am really looking forward to his response to the results of my operation. If anyone is in any doubt whether to do this I would say do it. I would have only regretted it if i hadn't.
