I have had small boobs since forever - and after...
I have had small boobs since forever - and after having my daughter they got even smaller. I have always wanted a boob job for as long as I can remember. So, finally I decided to do it! Some reviews I read made the recovery process sound VERY awful or VERY easy. I have found it to be somewhere in the middle, and of course this just depends on your pain tolerance. Right now I am 10 days post-op. As of today, I still have tightness in my chest, some tenderness, and occasional sharp pains in my breasts, usually shooting to my nipples. This is completely normal. My boobs are slowly but surely dropping (they say about 1% a day they drop) but right now they are still up pretty high and don't look normal, they are also still pretty hard... this is also normal. The day of surgery I was nervous and anxious but I had the most amazing people on my surgical team that all helped to ease my mind and help me relax. Day 1 after I got home from the hospital was rough - actually, the ride home was horrible. Any bump we went over in the car hurt A LOT. I couldn't wait to get home and go back to sleep. I was prety out of it and speaking gibberish to my hubby haha. He gave me pain meds when we got home and I went to sleep for a few hours. I woke up to go to the bathroom and start to get EXTREMELY nauseous - that's when I knew I was about to faint. My hubs came in to check on me at that exact moment (thank god) and caught me as I was going down. Luckily, the doc prescribed zofran to help with the nausea - I can't really handle anesthesia, but the doc prepared me for this. I took something the morning of surgery to ensure I wouldn't be sick while in recovery and it definitely worked. The meds prescribed were - an antibiotic (that you start taking the day before surgery), pain med, muscle relaxer, med for nausea, celebrex (for inflammation), and if you aren't good with anesthesia one additional med for the day of surgery. Days 2 and 3 were fairly similar - but each day improved in regards to pain. There was of course A LOT of stiffness and soreness - it hurt to take a deep breath, cough, or sneeze for a couple of days and don't even think about driving. Even once I was cleared to drive, they say day 4 you are good to go, it was still hard and I was still sore. For me, it felt like my boobs were crazy glued onto me and then duct taped. This feeling is starting to subside. I didn't need pain meds after day 4 but if I had trouble sleeping I would take a muscle relaxer. I am still sleeping on my back - I tried sleeping on my side but I am not ready for that. It was very uncomfortable and felt odd since my breasts don't really feel like a part of me just yet. The mornings are the worst in terms of stiffness - usually upon waking I am stiff in the chest and still a little sore but that improves once I get moving around and do the massage I was instructed to do. I opted for saline implants - in the even they rupture I want to know asap and since it's just saline it won't make you sick if that leak into your body. With silicone implants you have to get an MRI done every 2-3 years to ensure they are not leaking, I did not want to have to deal with that. My implants were placed under the chest muscle and I had them put in from the crease under my breasts. My sutures were dissolveable and by day 5 I was able to take off the little steri-strip thing. I kept bacitracin on it until I was told to discontinue. I am not using vitamin E on the scars but doc said they are healing nicely and soon enough they will greatly fade. I wore a surgical bra for a week which wasn't bad, kind of comfortable and the pressue on my breasts felt good for that week. My nipples are a bit sensitive right now so I will be happy when that goes away (and sore armpits still). Overall, I don't think recovery has been too bad. I had surgery done on a Friday and went back to work on Tuesday - honestly I could have used one more day but it wasn't horrible. They say recovery is "quick" but I feel like that mainly refers to the pain and nothing else, as I feel like I am still recovering. I don't want women going into this procedure thinking that they are going to be feeling 100% after a week - you won't and your breasts will feel strange for a while. But the majority say after 2-3 months they went bra shopping and their breasts started felt normal. Once my breasts have dropped and feel like a part of me I will post photos. I would recommend doing your research first on the types of implants and how you would like them to be put inside of you. Some docs only do certain types of implants and will only insert them one way. Make sure the type of implants you are getting are FDA approved as well and make a list of questions for your doc before you go in for your consultation. :)
