I'm a 26 year old female and I had always been self-conscious about the large hump in the middle of my nose which made my side on view less than appealing. I had wanted a rhinoplasty for many years and prior had a consultation with a Ear Nose and Throat specialist for both breathing issues due to a deviated septum and weak nasal walls that collapse when heavily breathing and the aesthetics of my nose. I decided to get a second consultation with Sophie after being referred to ARC by a friend who had a procedure with another surgeon there previously. Upon reviewing Sophie's bio I knew I had to have a consult with her which I could book in a couple of weeks later. When meeting with Sophie the offices and professionalism were of an exceptional standard. I started by telling Sophie my issues with breathing whilst wanting to improve the aesthetics of my nose by taking down the hump. Sophie was very clear in advising of realistic expectations and ensuring that I knew that she would not compromise the stability of my nose and breathing to achieve the perfect nose which gave me peace of mind. Photos were taken by Sophie's nurse of the face/nose at all angles and Sophie navigated through an achievable and realistic outcome on the computer which increased my confidence with moving forward with the surgery knowing roughly what the outcome would be. The morning of surgery at Epworth in Hawthorn as soon as I arrived at the hospital I was taken to change into a gown and warm robe immediately and consulted by Sophie, a nurse and two anesthetists before entering theatre. I woke up 3 hours later in recovery in no pain and moved shortly after to my private hospital room. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of pain that I was in, at any one time my pain levels were no higher than a 1/10 and managed well with medication. I would consider myself to have an extremely low pain threshold and yet this was not painful at all. The following morning at sunrise Sophie was in to check up on how I went overnight and provided some information on what I need to do and can be expecting over the next couple of days before I see her 5 days later. Post that I was able to go home and spent the next day or two napping off the anesthetic on and off. The first couple of days were more uncomfortable than anything ensuring your eyes were iced with gauze 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off to minimise bruising which worked wonders and getting a dry mouth from sleeping with your mouth open to breathe (Tip: Get yourself some Biotene Mouth Spray for dryness). 5 days later I had my first check up with Sophie where my bruising was almost gone, faint yellowing remaining and I had the couple of stitches under my nose removed and splint taken off and instantly I could already see a significant difference whilst still swollen. The nose swells a little after the splint being removed after being under the pressure but at this stage for someone who has never seen what you look like before you would not be able to tell that you have had a septorhinoplasty/rhinoplasty. A week off of work was more than enough to recover however I extended to two weeks just to have most of the swelling gone before I returned. I'm now 4 weeks post operation and my nose looks incredible and it has changed the complete look of my face in the best way possible. I could not have asked for a better result and I would highly recommend having a consult with Sophie if you are looking for someone who cares about what you're trying to achieve and is realistic and modern in her approach to surgery. I've attached a photo of moments before surgery, 1 week post surgery and 3 weeks post surgery. The swelling will continue decreasing over the next 12 months.
