Not Worth It
Spent: $4,000 in Columbus, Ohio
My derm recommended Fraxel to me for my crow's feet. Five treatments and $4000 later I developed horrible hyperpigmentation all over my face, which was once very nice. I literally looked like I had a mustache and beard. I spent the next eight months and several more thousand dollars clearing the hyperpigmentation only to see that under the dark spots were hundreds of broken capillaries. I went to the top doctor in Columbus Ohio who has " no idea" why this happened to me. ANY amt of sun on my face will bring this all back - for the rest of my life. I have now undergone 5 Vbeam and 3 IPL treatments to try to reduce the broken caps. Fraxel also caused large spots of HYPO pigmentation on my face. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Please do not do this to yourself.

I had 3 Fraxel treatments a couple years ago for my Melasma. Since then I've developed larger brown pigmentation that makes me look like I have dark makeup on all the time! I used to have nice skin with a few pigmentation spots. I don't sunbath and use sunscreen religiously, the only thing Fraxel did was tighten the skin a tiny bit and spread the melasma out over the whole face instead of in spots! It wasn't a bad experience but I'm now faced with seeking more laser treatments to get rid of all the hyperpigmentation. I wouldn't recommend it if your skin is light and very sensitive to UV and hormonal changes, or if you have freckled in the past. I can't stay out of the sun, just stepping out the door to the car does it, even with sunscreen slathered on! :(

Have you been able to get this fixed? Did anyone tell you what happened...This laser is just like getting Radiation treatments for cancer...So whatever they do to fix/help skin damaged by Radiation treatments could possibly help a little..

No I am still a mess! I was literally suicidal for a long, long time and hate myself for it! I recently met a woman who went to my same dr who is horribly disfigured. Are you getting anywhere?

Don't do anymore of the treatments look at my pics I did one treatment of the restore This lunchtime no risk no dowtime procedure ect ect is more dangerous than a full face C02...... But has been marketed so aggresively that women are getting it at Spa centers now......... If it goes wrong and it does the scarring and DNA damage is irreversable because it goes so Deep.....Don't be fooled by the marketing Just because your face isn't raw on the surface doesn't mean you are not severely burned...underneath it comes to surface later.......... Not just the top layers being peeled off ..... The ones who get decent results are not even close to worth the RISK.... All the people giving good reveiws are a few days or weeks after not 2 years out like mine..... If you look thru the reveiws many say they look worse after the intial swelling....Because they are!!!!!! They have DNA damage.... The skin on the surface looks better at first because it is dead ghost skin with no blood going to it so it dies..... What do you think those thousands of micro dots/zones do to your veins and blood supply.....They seal them..... They don't reattach..... Please think about it a few extra dots and you have a hole in your face...

I had a co2 full face laser in 96, microdermabrasions and an obagi blue peel. In 2008 I had 4 fraxel laser treatments. First I was under the impression that the results would be permanent after at least three treatments. My skin did look good and the scarring appeared much better and less noticeable. But I was extremely dissapointed in being told during the treatments that I would need treatments every 6mos to 1 yr to maintain the effects. Weel my skin did look good for a while. Then sometime after I developed hyperpigmentation in different areas on my face. I had patchy areas on my forehead, upper cheek bone at he corner of my eye, and the worst was my whole upper lip. It looks like a 24 hr 5 o'clock shadow. My cheeks seem "white" and a shallow scar has turned into a white spot also. My whole face is different shades and makeup doesn't completely cover or even out. I feel like I look "grey". I wish I never did this. A waste of looks and money. I should have done a co2 again.

The doctor has little to do with it, it is the machine itself that is so dangerous, pls consider yourself fully warned!

That is the way melasma works. Wherever the skin is damaged, it heals over with hyperpigmented skin and is always worsened by sun exposure. Melasma is a condition that is hormone related, specifically estrogen, and was not caused by the procedure itself. One cannot truly get rid of melasma. Even with using skin beaching creams for months, 15 minutes in the sun without proper protection can bring the spots back with a vengeance. Chances are that you already had this condition and the damage to your skin, which was intentional by the procedure, revealed its presence.

Oh and this laser did not change DNA. To suggest this is perposterous. If it had changed the DNA you would now have what most people call skin cancer!! Carcinogens such as pollution, UVA and UVB rays ie sunlight and tanning bed exposure, chemicals, poor diet containing carcinogens, heck if you like your cook outs and eat charred burgers and hot dogs... those are carcinogens. Carcinogens after prolonged exposure to healthy cells can mutate DNA. Once this happens, the mutated cells continue to divide and produce identical copies that build up forming cancerous lesions.

I would like to know if you had Fraxel yourself since you seem so knowledgeable on the subject. Melasma is not only hormone related. It can be due to thyroid conditions, heredity, etc. Look it up! I had two pregnancies and never developed melasma. So much for the hormone theory. I refer to my spots as melasma but they look more like "burns" because they are more like grey areas not darker brown. I also have hypopigmentation in the form of depressed white "scars" and what we refer to as "tracks". There are broken blood vessels, enlarged pores and orange-peel looking skin. Hundreds to thousands of people could not be making this up.

Then the correct term would by hyperpigmentation. It is more generalized. Hyperpigmentation is called by many things. The sun, hormones (and your thyroid affects your hormones), excessive exfoliation also causes hyperpigmentation. Broken vessels are also caused by many different things. Enlarged pores is part of your skin type and are a sign of oilier skin, acne scarring, or even caused by smoking. Any doctor should tell you how intense the Fraxel Laser is. There is a lot of down time with the Fraxel and a lot of people do not realize that. It will take several days to recover from a procedure like that. It is a laser and it does destroy parts of your skin cells and it takes time for those cells to grow back. Your skin has many layers and the cells grow from the innermost layer and gradually move outwards. This process takes anywhere from 40-80 days depending on your age. That is a lot of recovery time. If you want to have a procedure as dangerous as this then you should research the doctor before deciding who to go with. There are doctors who use lasers like these who are not certified to use them. No normal doctor should be using any laser. You should see a State Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. and yes I do in fact stress the work State Board Certified.

I work for a plastic surgeon in columbus. He has done hundreds of fraxels lasters and has never has any problems. I would be very interested in knowing who the plastic surgeon you saw. From what I have read it seems like the plastic surgeon that was seen did not use the correct laser and did not use the correct settings. He seems to have not taken the correct steps prior to the fraxel treatment that he should of. Everyone's skin is different. He should know that. Which sounds to me he needs his license looked at. If you could please let me know who this surgeon was, it would be much appreciated.

Are there any corrective treatments to restore the texture of skin??? What about ablative CO2? Anyone, please advise if you've had any corrective treatments or know of any that will correct skin damage caused by Fraxel Laser (track marks and pin holes thatlook like enlarged pores).
