Had Breast Reduction one week ago today. I have recently lost weight and felt the time was right to go ahead with it. I was previously a 34 HH cup but have gone to a C/D cup (not too sure just yet) I have been amazed at the lack of pain i have experienced, just discomfort that is all. The worst part for me has been getting over the aneasthetic!! Due to have dressings changed today

I have really noticed how much lighter i feel, no more dragging on my shoulders feel so much more happier and confident already so cant wait to go and buy my new wardrobe.

My Doctor:

Very profesional, understanding. Talks you through all the pros & cons and gave good advise as to the ultimate size as i was unsure. He already has such a good reputation which was also one of the reasons i chose him

Hi Rochdale22 -- Congrats on your surgery! Sounds like you're well on your way to a great result.

Did you have the surgery through the NHS?

Rochdale22 9 Nov 2010
No i did start with the process that way but then the PCT i am under decided they wouldnt fund it so i went to a private hospital and funded it myself

Wow. I'm shocked to hear they wouldn't fund it, given your original size. I love the NHS but that's a dumb decision on their part. I'm glad you were still able to get the surgery on your own.

I'm so envious. I'm saving like mad and am hoping to look normal in strappy tops for the summer. Which private hospital did you use? And many congrats :).

I used BMI, The Highfield Hospital in Rochdale. The group do a BMI card which is esentially like a credit card and you can have 6 months free credit, although when i had my surgery they were doing 12 months interest free on cosmetic surgery. You can go onto there website for info bmihealthcare.co.uk. I would recomend them they were excellent as was the consultant.
It was the best thing i did its amazing how different it makes you feel about yourself.

Did you get a peek? Are you back to normal yet?
I have a BMI hospital near me so will definately enquire. Did they do the anchor technique or Le Jour? What was the rough uk cost. If you don't mind telling me that is. Really appreciate your advice :)

Not sure which procedure, what are they, i can find out. I have incision under each breast going up then around the nipple. The nipple was left attached but repositioned. The top part of the dressing was taken off the following morning (i had the surgery late afternoon and took 3 1/2 hours) then the dressings stayed on for a week then removed. Been tender until last week or so but the scaring is a bit tender but otherwise i am fine. Was back to work after 5 weeks but depending on your job it could have been earlier. Cost was £4370, but i had discount as i also work at the hospital.

Hello just wondering how you're getting on .
Rochdale22 12 Jul 2011
I am doing fine thank you. So glad i went ahead with the procedure, it was the best thing i have ever done. The great feeling of being able to walk into a shop and buy a dress or a bikini, which is something i have not been able to do for years is wonderfull. The scares are still quite pink and raised in places, but they are not sore, and i am told they will lesson as time goes on. If you are thinking of going ahead with a breast reduction, from my experience i would say it is well worth it and go for it.

Having my procedure done on August the 4th and plan to take a fortnight off.Trouble is i have a few important venue's one been the following week where i will have to travel to an unavoidable event just wondering how quickly or not were you mobile?SO Nervous sometimes i think im over reacting but when i look at myself it reminds me why i'm doing this.Im 5ft 2 weigh 9st and 30g.So appreciate any feedback you may have.Thank you again for your correspondence.

I was in Hospital for 2 nights, due to my op being later in the day and not back to my room until 9.30pm. Felt pretty good the following day, but took me a few days to get over the anesthetic. I took 3 weeks off work, its more a feeling of being tender and not wanting anyone to close more than anything. I had dressings on for a week. I struggled with lifting as i was quite achey but otherwise felt well. The only painkillers i took were paracetamol. I must say i was both nervous and excited to have it done, but was more apprehensive after because i found it so odd looking down to a small chest after all the years of having such a big one!! and i got quite upset wondering if i had done the right thing and if my husband wouldnt like the scars, but after a bit of a cry i was so glad i went ahead beacuse its after you realise how much more confidence you have to wear the cloths you always wanted to but never could, that was the best feeling. The first dress i bought after was a fitted black dress, i picked it up in a store tried it on and it fitted, i cryed again in the fitting room as i had not been able to wear a dress for years.
I am happy to answer any questions i can for you. Are you in the same area (Rochdale!)
Hope all goes well and you are happy with the results.
Take care x

It's refreshing to hear positive feedback because as my op date get's nearer I get more and more nervous.... Keep thinking that there not that bad and I've lived with them so long that now at the age of 45 it's a mad thing to do! ... Plus I have a ridiculously busy life and my family won't cope with me been immobile but I realise the implications if I'm not careful.
Rochdale22 26 Jul 2011
Its not a mad thing to do,i was 47! you wont be that immobile, you just need to be careful especially with any lifting, but you will be so glad you did it, it makes such a difference to your life. Hopefully you will get support off your family, my Husband was great, so was my Daughter, so i guess i was lucky.
You have come this far, only a few more days to go, but it will be worth it.
Let me know how you go on. Good luck and take care.
