Morning after IPL

Redness greatly diminished overnight. Using post care protocol kit that Nicole provided as a gift yesterday. Of note - a fair amount of swelling, which she said to expect.

Sitting down at the computer to write this out because today was a total surprise. It's been 3 hours since my first IPL treatment and my face feels a little tight. The sunburn feeling has subsided.

A little background - On the FItzpatrick scale, which runs from 0 (albino) to VI (6-black) , I'm a 2 - naturally blue-grey eyes, pale skin, burn then tan type. I moved to CO 7 years ago and doubled my moles in a matter of 2 years. The UV rays here in the Mile High City are nothing to sneeze at. Really. *ugh* And apparently my skin type makes me a perfect candidate for IPL. I have recently (over the past year) really started to notice the pigmentation irregularities in my skin, so...

Several years ago I bought a Groupon for a combo Microgenesis Laser/Microdermabrasion. Very glad I didn't pay much for the $403 value, because I didn't see anything particularly notable in terms of results. But. Saw a Groupon for multiple IPL facials at a crazy good screaming deal, and the reviews for the Aesthetician were stellar. Turns out she's also a nurse, which after reading all the not so stellar IPL reviews, means something. So - bought a package, and today was the 1st day.

First, Nicole presents very professionally, and I filled out a thoughtful health questionnaire that she reviewed in detail. She took pre-photos, and discussed what to expect in terms of during and after. Here's the tricky part - because I am (was) a new patient, her preference is to not use the anesthetic gel (which takes an hour to work). The reason is because it apparently constricts the blood vessels, which means she cannot judge how I (my skin) is reacting to the laser. Also means that, unlike the Microgenesis Laser, this procedure was crazy painful.

Nicole put metal (steel?) eye protection on me - from what I've read, that was v wise. She then told me that she was open to whatever I needed in terms of pain management: to talk through it, breathe through it, go to my "happy place', provide me a squeezy ball, etc... No *ing, without anesthetic gel for an hour before, this procedure hurts like a very dirty word. But in order to avoid the horrible burned/scarred results I've read about in other reviews, I genuinely appreciate her conservative practices.

This was not anything like what I remembered from the Microgenesis/dermabrasion experience - but then I am hoping for better results too :-)

Photos - before and 3 hours after...

PS I will provide Provider information after I can confirm it's good :-)
