Has Been a Trying Process, but Still Worth It if You Don't Want Traditional Braces - Dallas, TX

I had braces as a teen, but got them removed early because i didn't want to go to college with them on. My teeth since then began to crowd again so 10 years after getting my braces off I decided to get invisalign. The Dentist told me I should be a simple case, and after I got my fist set they said I should be finished in 20 weeks, and I only had three buttons.

I was excited...But at the end of the 4 months my teeth were straight, but my top and bottom teeth did not match. My bite was way off. They gave me a revision for free, and additional 18 weeks of treatment my bite was that off. Now 10 weeks into this with 8 to go my bite is still off, and I'm worrying I'm going to need another revision to be able to bite down and not have random teeth in the way, but I'm hopeful to see something happen in the remaining 8 weeks I have left. Needless to say I'm frustrated, but still prefer this to going through with adult braces.

The process is painless if you ever had braces. I would just recommend looking into wherever you decide to get treatment to be sure they know what they are doing.

As expected they did an additional revision which was only on the bottom teeth. I have already completed that treatment as well and I still to this day have the same problem. My dentist said he believes my bite is off because I clenched my teeth while I sleep and the extra space on my bite was cause by the trays pushing my teeth deeper in my gums. He believes that they will "fall back into place" eventually. Well sad to say almost 6 months later no change at all after completion of the third try. . . He suggest shaving off some of the teeth that are preventing my back teeth to touch... Which doesn't sound like a plan to me... I didn't have this problem before I started and would like my teeth to remain intact. And as for the gap that I mentioned before by my canines they say this process will never be able to fix this... Which would have been nice to know in the beginning. All and all knowing what I know now I probably would have not done it because I now have straight teeth that can't close. But I'm sure my experience is uncommon. I would still recommend the process but maybe not if you clenched your teeth at night.

Great review?

My case sounds very similar to yours. I too removed my braces too early before college, then at age 36 turned to invisalign to finish what I had started. Now, I'm finished with my trays but my bite is very off and I'm not that thrilled with my teeth. I envisioned a better end result cosmetically and now I'm dealing with a serious bite issue. I too already finished my refinement and the bite is still off. I'm not sure what my ortho plans on doing next since she seems to be running out of options.

It was only a dentist, but they are an elite platinum provider of the service... But in hindsight that probably just means they pump out a high volume of Invisalign. I wish I would have gone to an orthodontist now but my insurance doesn't cover them at my age.

Yeah, I completely understand going with what your insurance covers.

It sounds like you did go to someone with the highest designation, but the designations are assigned based on quantity of cases completed. You can click here to read a forum post about the designation qualifications if it interests you.

I'm so sorry to hear this caused problems with your bite. Yes, straight teeth are nice but functioning ones are nicer.

Was your Invisalign treatment completed by a general dentist or an orthodontists?
