Who would've thought I feel better after having another surgery?

So, I started with new swelling in my belly, and then it became firmer, and then it started bruising, so I realized this needed to be seen. I saw my doctor on Easter and he brought me back in this morning for a 30 minute drainage of the hematoma (collection of the blood) under general anesthesia. Admittedly, I was devastated yesterday, hearing that I had to go back under after thinking I had overcome that big mental barrier of making it through surgery.

But, today was really good. Things went smoothly. My surgeon was absolutely calm and gentle and kind and proactive. He says he drained about a coke can - Coke bottle worth of blood from underneath my wound.

And I feel so much better. My belly seems flatter. I am very grateful! I do have a new drain that's back in place, but believe me, those drains are on your side. Tolerate your drains because they keep you from having this blood underneath your belly, which hurts and can cause long term problems of swelling or eventual infection.

So to all of you who've ever wondered whether you will ever think to yourself, "was this worth it? what have I done? Or why did I do this?" I was there yesterday. It was miserable. I felt guilty and sad, but now I'm over this and much better for just sucking it up, accepting it, realizing I had a complication and and trust my doctor.

Life is better today. I don't feel like the surgery today set me back like I was worried about. anyone with complications, be reassured. You, too, will get through this! Those without any complications, consider yourself blessed!

Hoping to get to post more and more good news soon!

Surviving Easter, standing as straight up as possible, not to let my family know

ok. Things were going well. Fever had gone, swelling was decreasing, weight was going down.... Then, this morning (or late last night), I noticed a darkening of the skin/bruising of the top portion of the incision/lower abdomen. Now there is more pressure/pain and a little pooch there. Granted, it is the holiday and I have been on my feet more and pushing more and there is no fever, but I'm worried. Help? Is this Just moving of the discoloration and bruising or something new to worry about?

One week out pics (only for you girls!)
