I have had large heavy breasts all my adult life...
I have had large heavy breasts all my adult life and for the majority of the time coped well with them. I was self conscious at times but that wasn't my motivation for having the surgery. I chose to have a reduction due to the increasing thoracic (upper back), shoulder and neck pain, pins and needles in my arms/hands and constantly feeling like I was hauling a huge weight around on my chest.
Being active is essential for me however, it was increasingly difficult to do many activities due to the pain and them getting in the way.
Not knowing where to go and who to ask about having the surgery I contacted 'realself' and from there to my surgeon Gary Ross.
I was advised to give up smoking which I duly did without hesitation as this helps prevent problems with healing. I was determined to have it done and after years of 'trying' to give up I just stopped - amazed at myself.
I was nervous before and even wondered if I would miss them!
The surgery itself was uneventful. Sore and uncomfortable yes but not unbearable. I was up and walking around a few hours after getting back to the ward.
6 weeks later, I can't imagine what I was like before. I feel comfortable, pain free, more agile, and surprisingly more confident. Returning to work at 2 wks, exercising again at 4 wks, running at 6 wks - in the day light on the main roads - fantastic!
I read a lot of reviews prior to having it done and agree, I wish that I had been brave enough to have it done when I was younger.

From my initial enquiry via email to discharge Gary Ross has been approachable, open and honest about the surgery and expectations. He demands high standards from his staff, and himself - I felt like I was in safe hands. I went to see him twice before the surgery and twice for follow up afterwards. I felt comfortable at all times with him, the staff and Vicky his practice manager.
