WORTH IT$2,500

I had Bio-alcamid injections in my cheeks to fix the facial atrophy that was caused from Lipodystrophy. It totally changed my life for the better. How nice to look normal instead of having the sunken cheeks and skeletal looks. I am very happy with the results. I only wish they would approve it in the U.S. I went to Canada to get the injections. To know that it is permanent and is not going to go away or get reabsorbed is a plus too!

Hi, after reading thru all experiences, I am very concerned and scared. I had Bio-alcamid injected in the naso-labial area about 3 months ago. So far so good, I am happy with the results but are terrified with what can happen years from now. Is there anyone out there that has have a good experience after many years with Bio-alcamid?

I'm so sorry to hear you are feeling scared. I am glad you are not experiencing any difficulties from it right now, and are being proactive about researching your options in case anything should happen in the future.

Here is a Q&A that might be helpful info for you. It sounds like it can be surgically removed if necessary.

Can Bio-Alcamid Be Removed?

I had quite a bit of BioAlcamid injected into my cheeks, temples and along my jaw line back in 2006. I have had no complications and the filler has stayed in place. I think the key at least for me, is that if someone is going to have this filler injected, that they absolutely research the physician or dermatologist who will be doing the work. In the wrong unskilled hands this filler may cause some serious issues.

Many studies done as early as the 90's are showing that over time, no matter how satisfied people are for the moment, will develop problems. More recently studies indicate that migration is going to happen. It is not a safe product, from the research that I have done (extensive) and have a look yourself about the journals from Europe. In The Netherlands, this product/device has been permanently banned. Health Canada has rescinded the approval of the device, so it is no longer available for use. Many countries are following suit. I would be alarmed if someone were to choose to use it today.

I don't know who posted the deleted comment may another one? Removal, love to but so many disjointed opinions on how to? My latest research indicates that in severe cases. The skin needs to be peeled back then shaped and removed. Reconstructive surgery is the safest method for removal. Just to clarify it was never my understanding Drs intended to do harm. I do however maintain that there was a huge lack of research before this 'device' was trailed. There was an abundance of information available to have at.least warranted discussion of severe complications rather than claims of safety and easy removal. Certainly in 2005 publications from one government and an international body of plastic surgeons published warnings. Why or how these were ignored I've no clue. I didn't have an opportunity to make an informed decision. That along with multiple infections slow (lack of meaningful resolution) is my and has been my concern.

yyz: I posted the deleted comment. It was taken down, because when I wrote it, I was very upset with new infections that have appeared in my face.... I had the product removed 5 years ago. At least I thought it was over. BioAlcamid has a habit of hiding in tissue and anywhere it can migrate to. In all honesty the only way to remove it is to drain it out. An insicion is made on the face where the product is assumed to be located. It is then pushed and squeezed out. The area needs to be flushed with an antiseptic liquid to help remove the product and avoid infection. Oral antibiotics need to be used before and after the surgery. The surgeon and you need to be prepared to spend up to six hours draining, and redraining the product. Closing the wound too soon without draining repeatedly will undoubtedly leave product in your face. If there is no infection after surgery, the wound(s) should heal with minimal scarring. After surgery it is important to watch for any abnormal lumps or swelling. This may indicate that all the product has not been removed. Please click my username for further information/pictures of removal. Good luck, try not to worry. There is good reason for hope that you can have this product removed successfully.

Hi, and thank you for all informations you give about your own experience can you give us news about how you feel now?

The surgeon I had was experienced in the removal of bio-alcamid. However, Jan/15 another pile of the product migrated up to the surface on my cheek....The doctor wants me to wait for another month or so before draining it ensure all of the product comes out. Please find an experienced, qualified physician to remove the product.....there can be serious consequences if it is done by someone who had not had experience in the field. How do I feel?...... I feel like I've been a lab mouse for the manfactuers, and the physician who used this product to make money......at mine and hundreds of thousands of other victims expense. I'm exhausted.......mentally and physically.

With so much of this ba that's been used I find it highly suspect that there are so very few specialists making so little effort, at least that has been my experience. My most profound experience has been isolation from any reasonable medical response as I still have this squirming toxin in my face. On a good day it feels alive and menacing.
