3 month update

It has been 3 months since my rhinoplasty and i couldn't be happier! I don't have a big update because everything has been going very well. I still tape because I personally think it helps with swelling. However, I did notice that the swelling went down and I love the results more and more each day. That is not to say that I do not get swelling because some days I do have some swelling but it's nothing drastic. I am really glad I made the decision to get rhinoplasty it is one of the best decisions I have ever made :)

I am late writing this review. I was going to...

I am late writing this review. I was going to document the beginning of my journey earlier but I decided to wait until the procedure was done so I wouldn’t be thinking about the outcome and everything that comes with surgery too much.

Anyway with that said I am 19 years old and I have wanted a new nose for years. I did try to embrace my old nose and talk myself into not having it fixed but I decided I would feel more confident without the hump on my nose. What I wanted was the hump to be reduced a low curved bridge (slope look) and for the nose to be less broad.

When I decided to get rhinoplasty I researched doctors around the bay area and Dr. Mehta stood out to me. Now I might be going against what everyone here on Real Self does by consulting with at least 3 plastic surgeons before they make a decision on which surgeon to choose because I literally went to Dr. Mehta for my consultation and booked the surgery the same day. Don’t get me wrong I was nervous and anxious about my decision and I would read reviews over and over again on Dr. Mehta. I’m pretty sure I read reviews up until my surgery day. Although a majority of the reviews were positive they were all 2-3 years old and I wasn’t feeling too at ease. That is why I am writing this review because although the reviews were good they were old and there was 1 negative review that worried me BUT I didn’t let it bother me and went ahead with the surgery. Before I go on to my consultation, pre-op consult, surgery day, recovery, and results I want to strongly encourage anyone who is considering a rhinoplasty with Dr. Mehta do not be steered away by reviews and rather go in for a consultation it is worth your time.

Starting off my consultation went great he looked inside my nose we discussed what I wanted and what could be done. I asked questions that I felt I needed to know. What I loved and greatly influenced my decision to choose Dr. Mehta even though my decision was practically made was his digital imaging and being able to morph my nose into what I wanted on the computer so he and I would be on the same page. He let me know that what I wanted could be done and he would be able to do it with an open rhinoplasty approach. Later on that day he emailed me all the pictures he took and the before and after so I would be able to have them and see if I liked what we created. That was about it regarding the consult.

Now for the pre-op consultation it was different because I live farther away from his office so it was convenient to have an over the phone consult. His nurse Katelyn emailed me surgical instructions since I didn’t go into the office, which was great and helpful. Over the phone Dr. Mehta and I further discussed what I wanted and referred back to the images we created. At this point I decided I wanted to alter the pictures we made and he was able to do that and sent me the new pictures that I was really pleased with.

The day before surgery Dr. Mehta called me and he again confirmed what he would do and I can honestly say that after that phone call I was so much more relaxed and excited for the surgery. Now for the day of the surgery I got to the surgery center and it was pretty basic like taking vitals and all that good stuff. My anesthesiologist got there promptly and he was great. I saw Dr. Mehta one more time before I was wheeled into the surgery room and confirmed everything again. I know it seems like I am saying he confirmed with me and I confirmed with him repeatedly but it was very important for me to know that we had the same understanding. After surgery I recovered and I was able to go home.

My recovery went very well. I did bruise but it was expected and I wasn’t planning on leaving my house anyway. The bruising was gone by the time I went to get my cast and stiches off. I had my cast on for 7 days. I was on pain medication but I didn’t need the pain medication after I would say the 4th day. Dr. Mehta recommended bromelain and arnica montana that I took as well as drinking pineapple juice. I iced my face as much as I could and I slept elevated for the week. With that said recovery was easy and now for the exciting part results!

Now it has been a week and a day since I had my cast removed I got it off on 2/17/15. I would say the part that hurt the most out of everything (yes including recovery) at least for me was the tube removal from my nose. When that cast was removed I LOVED my profile and I still do. I was surprised because my nose looked wide BUT it was because of the swelling because right when I got home the swelling went down and I can’t stress enough of how pleased I am with the results. I pretty much spent the whole night looking at my nose and I am so in love. I think this is what it feels like when a newborn is brought home!

I still can’t believe what Dr. Mehta was able to do with my nose. No words can describe how happy I am with the results and I would go through the process all over again because I am literally left speechless every time I see my reflection. Again if you live in the bay area or even if you don’t I strongly encourage you to go in for a consult with Dr. Mehta he truly is a brilliant surgeon.
