My new dentist said that theres a 20% risk of needling root canal treatment after getting a crown as it could irritate the nerve, my risk elevated as I have a crack (filled but didnt work, hence needing a crown) and want a porcelain one (more drilling). Just wanted a second opinion on whether this 20%+ figure is correct? This is a lower molar. The dentist is a general dentist whos been practicing for ~6 years.
I went in for tooth pain. Dentist removed decay from broken tooth. He told me I needed a crown. After weeks of no pain I expressed I didn't want the crown. He said it was already made and necessary. I reluctantly agreed. A few weeks after getting crown, the tooth started hurting again. I went in and all he did was file down tooth to help alignment. Still in alot of pain from crown on my nerve.
Hi,I recently had a temporary crown placed on my upper right molar (tooth #3). The tooth had a very large filling prior to the temporary crown and I would feel a jolt or electric feeling whenever I ate something hard. I got 3 opinions from 3 dentists, they all said their may be a fracture and since the filling was so big a crown would fix it. Their opinions all lined up. Its been 4 weeks since my temporary crown has been put on. On week 3 I went to get the permanent one placed but I told them that I still feel a small jolt feeling lasting like 1 second when i eat hard foods on that tooth. They examined the tooth and said the bite was high and they adjusted it and told me to wait another week. After the adjustment which was 6 days ago, I still notice the jolt is still kinda there. When I bite down on the inner cusp thats where I feel the sensation. The sensation is only felt on the inner cusp of the tooth nowhere else. Also, If I press my finger or push my finger up against the tooth I can feel the jolt. Its not painful really just annoying. The sensation comes on for 1 second then disappears as I continue to chew. Questions:1. Do you think putting on the permanent crown wont solve this and Ill need a root canal? I doubt theres a nerve issue, the xrays showed the nerve looked fine and my symptom is so minor and small. What do you think? 2.Can i just do the permanent crown now and see if that solves the problem or is it better to do a root canal before a crown?
I had a root canal on my back right tooth, after going back because of pain from biting hard foods, the dentist said my root is grown into my sinus. However, it feels like nerve pain, and very sensitive to cold or hot liquids. Could the pain from the root/sinus cause the pain even though I've had a root canal
Follow up to previous QA: I recently had an old crown replaced. I had no pain, just difficulty flossing from an overhang. Since temporary has been on I have pain when chewing or biting. My dentist thought it was the nerve disrupted during the procedure and sent me to an endodontist for eval. The endo just told me to take advil and come back in another week to eval. Ive been taking advil and zero change, not worse or better. BOTH ENDO AND DENTIST CHECKED CROWN FOR BITE AND SAID IT WAS OK.
The cavity was removed and Im scheduled to get my permanent crown in two weeks. I felt no pain two days post however now Im having a lot of pain in my tooth. It feels like a cavity pain/nerve pain. Im taking pain meds around the clock. Is it too soon to say if I need a root canal? Should I wait longer to see if the pain goes away before scheduling a root canal?
#14 had 2 fillings. Tooth crowned mid Feb. I was fine for a week. Then cold/pressure sensitivity and sore spot near the gum line. I've had 3 bite adjustments and last one he sanded a different toot. Normal? The slick texture is gone and almost all ridges have been filed away. I feel he has compromised the integrity of my crown. Is it possible he's recommending a root canal because he doesn't want to replace it? Could it be exposed nerve from an ill fitted crown? Will a root canal weaken it?
