Answer: Rhinoplasty for hooked nose The rhinoplasty operation is a surgical procedure to change the shape of cartilage and bone underneath the skin. The dorsal hump or hook is composed of both bone and cartilage and must be shaved down in order to remove it. To prevent the tip from drooping even more when smiling, the depressor septi ligament needs to be released. For many examples of closed rhinoplasty approach for a down turned nose and dorsal hump removal, please see the link below

Answer: I have a hooked nose. What are my options, nose surgery or non surgical nose surgery? A "hooked" nose can be realistically improved with a rhinoplasty through a closed or open approach. Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you what to do based on a limited two dimensional photos without examining you, physically feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best surgery. Natural appearing results need to be individualized and what is appropriate for one patient is not necessarily the best for someone else. I would suggest that you find a surgeon with extensive rhinoplasty experience certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and one who is ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or a facial plastic surgeon (otolaryngologist) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. There are no good non-surgical options to correct a nose with your particular anatomy. Robert Singer, M.D., FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Nasal Changes. Meddow:I used to live near Ukiah, beautiful country!Regarding your nose. More photos would be necessary to give a further analysis. Seeing that you are relatively young, I would advise you see a surgeon with excellent rhinoplasty skills. Briefly it looks like your tip is a bit wide and although I cannot see it on pictures I believe your tip descends when you smile. These are common issues addressed in rhinoplasty and I would therefore recommend you seek the opinion of an experienced surgeon.Dr. Fedok
