Peels for the lower extremities

Peels for the extremities give clinical improvement in sun damage if they a superficial in variety.  An excellent peel, so called the "Cook" peel is the use of 70% glycolic acid gel for 2-3 minutes followed by 15% Trichloracetic acid for several minutes.  Deeper peels can lead to scarring and should be avoided.

Chemical peels should not be performed off the face

The skin of the face is privileged in its ability to heal after it has been stressed.  Peel are great here.  Off the face, the skin does not heal nearly as well.  Peels tend to cause scaring.  For this reason peels are not performed off the face.  A very mild fruit acid might be safe but these agents will not improve the skin because their effects are very superficial.
