Hello: I want to perform a rhinoplasty for cosmetic issues to obtain more symmetry in my nose. I have consulted different doctors. My main stopper is that I have thick skin, I know it can affect final results but the main stopper is that it seems I can have swelling up to 2 years after procedure. In this moment I am not sure what implies rhinoplasty swelling.
Answer: Nasal tip swelling after rhinoplasty: Nasal tip swelling after rhinoplasty: The skin of the nasal tip is the thickest on the nose. It is therefore the last to achieve its final result after rhinoplasty. Typically with average skin it takes about a year to see the final result. With thicker skin it takes substantially longer, which may mean two or even 3 or more years. this consists not only of swelling but of the buildup of a layer of scar issue under the skin which tends to be thicker in thick skin patients. This does not mean that you will be going around with a large swollen tip. The tip will, in the vast majority of cases, even with very thick skin, be thinner and better than it was before, but not its final best. The process of reducing swelling, absorbing scar tissue and thinning your own skin can be sped up with Cortizone injection which may be given after surgery. Some surgeons begin after four months, while others may begin sooner or later than that.. And while the prettiest noses are not often achievable in patients with extremely thick skin. There is usually a significant improvement over the preoperative appearance especially when the surgery is combined with postoperative Cortizone injections.

CONTACT NOW Answer: Not all thick skin is created equal. I agree that thick nasal tip skin can retain swelling longer than thin skin, however, it may not take two years to achieve your final result. Please consider re-asking your question with photos, since photos are a reasonable measure of determining the thickness of somebody's nasal skin. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

Answer: Question Your question is a little confusing to me, so I'll just try to clarify as easily as I can. Everyone will swell after rhinoplasty and need AT LEAST 1 year to see their final result. If you have thick skin, you might be looking at 2-3 years to see the final result. In either case, you can still have successful surgery, you just have to be prepared to be even more patient if you have thicker skin. Another thing to be aware of is if you have thicker skin, you may need to look at using stronger cartilage to hold up the thicker skin - did your doctor discuss that?

Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello! Thank you for your question. As far as I can understand fro your question the healing time in thick skin takes longer than normal skin, so it may take 1.5 or 2 years for your nose to take its full shape It would be better face to face consultation. Best regards!
