I have a hole in my septum and its not from doing drugs-as I've never done before- I know its a horrible habbit bit its simply from picking my nose. Im scared its going to collapse altogether! Im already embarrassed to go to the doctor so if there's nothing the doctor can do I don't want to embarrass myself for no reason, so is there anything that can be done to close it up before it gets even worse??

Answer: I have a hole in my septum. Can it be fixed? In most cases, a septal perforation can be surgically repaired. If you want to avoid surgery/ recovery a septal button can be placed which is a soft silicon shim that plugs the perforation. Some people tolerate the button very well, others find it to be uncomfortable or challenging to care for.The key to success, however, is to ensure that you completely stop traumatizing your nasal septum. If that issue isn't dealt with there is a high probability that any attempt to repair the perforation will fail.I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Septal perforation What you describe is called a septal perforation. You should not be embarrassed. Everyone picks their nose, so don't be hard on yourself. Septal perforations can definitely be repaired, depending on the size and some other factors. You should absolutely consult with a specialist in this area. Not every nose surgeon has the expertise to tackle this difficult case. Good luck!

Answer: Septal Perforation Repair Septal perforations are not rare and a doctor is not going to care why it is there beyond making sure what caused it is avoided if surgical repair is done. The repair technique used would depend on its size.
