I know it would be safer and better to have a BA done in the hospital but is office-based BA surgery safe (assuming that my health condition is good) ? Thank you

Answer: Accredited Surgical Facility is Important This is a great question, and one I wish more patients considered. Office based surgery centers are considered safe. Going to an accredited facility is the key in determining whether it's ok to have a surgery performed in an "office setting". The other factor is making sure your doctors are board certified for their particular specialty. If it is an accredited facility, they will be. My San Antonio Surgery Center was designed to afford maximum privacy, safety and cost-savings for my patients. The Surgical Center offers 2 full-size Operating Rooms, Pre-Operative Rooms, a multi-bed Recovery Room, sterilization room and more, and is located on the other half of our 10,000 sf facility as a separate area from our Clinical Offices. Our Post-Operative Recovery Room is located right next to our nurses station so they can provide personalized care throughout your recovery. The Surgery Center is a Class C facility certified to perform all types of anesthesia including local, regional and general. Your anesthesia is provided by a licensed M.D., Board Certified Anesthesiologist. As an additional safety, my surgical facility connects directly with a major area Hospital. To be accredited, every surgery facility must meet stringent national standards for equipment, operating safety, personnel and surgeon credentials. With the growing number of unaccredited surgery facilities, operating independent of any peer review and inspection process, it is important to know that AAAASF accreditation is today's best assurance of safety, quality and efficiency in the outpatient surgery environment.

Answer: Breast augmentation in an office Thanks for this excellent question about safety. Performing a breast augmentation in an office can be a safe procedure if it is being performed in an accredited surgical suite with board-certified anesthesiologists. What I sometimes see and do not recommend with office-based surgery is a procedure being performed in a non-accredited suite by a "cosmetic" surgeon who does not have hospital privileges for the procedure. He or she must then perform it in their office because they have no other choice. Make sure your surgeon is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has hospital privileges in the procedure you are having done.

Answer: Is it safe to have a Breast Augmentation surgery in a surgeon's office? First and foremost, be sure to research your surgeons and their credentials prior to consultation to ensure that you have a Board Certified Surgeon performing your surgery. I designed and built my own fully accredited facility and operate daily along with a team of dedicated nursing staff and board certified anesthesiologist. Infection rates tend to be lower than in hospital as these facilities do only cosmetic procedures as appose to varying surgical procedures. However, surgery can be performed safely whether in an accredited facility or hospital. Be sure to be direct with your questions in this regard during your consultation.
