Healthy, active 24 year old with no kids (160lb, 5'4). My boobs have always had sagging and asymmetry since puberty, I was hoping to magically grow out of it somehow but nothing changed. What do you suggest to correct it? Do I need a lift with implants, or could I get an implant large enough to correct the ptosis? Is there any way insurance would cover part of it? I am an avid gym-goer and do powerlifting/bodybuilding. How will surgery impact my bench press/upper body exercises?
Answer: Options to improve breast asymmetry Hi lipa24, asymmetrical sagging breasts are very common! While non-surgical solutions likely will be less satisfactory, they are worth considering while you are contemplating surgery. Try wearing a well-fitting, supportive bra with underwire and adjustable straps that lift and evenly distribute breast tissue. Also, inserts can be placed to create a more symmetrical appearance. They come in various sizes and shapes to accommodate different levels of asymmetry. As for surgery, the breast lift (mastopexy) removes excess skin to improve the overall breast shape, and symmetry. It can be performed with or without implants but given your volume discrepancy, implants or fat transfer to the breast will yield the best look. You likely just need a small scar above the areola to do a nipple lift, but the amount of skin to remove depends upon your measurements. I don't recommend placing an implant without the nipple lift-it might result in a "waterfall" deformity where the breast tissue is lower than the maximum point of implant projection. Insurance typically doesn't cover breast augmentation or lifts for purely cosmetic reasons. However, if the asymmetry or sagging is causing pain or discomfort, insurance may offer some coverage. It's best to check with your insurance provider to understand your specific coverage details. Following breast surgery, you'll need to restrict strenuous activity for a period of time to allow for proper healing. It will be approximately 4-6 weeks before you resume your gym routine and gradually increase the intensity of your workouts, depending upon whether you proceed with fat transfer or implants. There will be no long term impact on your pectoralis muscle function regardless of how you proceed. Good luck!-Dr. Doolabh

CONTACT NOW Answer: How do I fix my asymmetrical, sagging boobs? It appears a breast lift would be suggested to improve the sagging. For symmetry you can either have tissue removed from the larger breast at the time of the lift, or you can add different size implants. The implants should not significantly affect your upper body exercises.

Answer: Lift recommended Your nipples are located below your breast fold therefore a breast lift would be recommended. This would also improve shape asymmetry. Implants can be placed if you’d like to increase size or balance out size asymmetry.

Answer: Surgery Insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures. I would suggest smaller implants of different sizes to adjust for the difference between your breasts and a lift.

Answer: Sagging breast Your problem is not uncommon. You have moderate asymmetry therefore you have different ways to handle it. Depending on you breast size preference gives you options as well. No implants: Reduce the left breast and lift both. If you want more upper breast volume you can lift the breast with implants. another method to improve the size difference, assuming your breast are not too dense without a lift, would be to liposuction the larger breast. This may result in a more sagging breast, therefore the breast lift is recommended. Bottom line you need a formal consultation/exam, in person to have a full explanation and advice.

Answer: Asymmetrical, sagging boobs Dear lipa24, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Based on your photos, it looks like you have significant asymmetry. You will most likely need a breast lift and different size implants to achieve better symmetry. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.
