I am 3 months post-op liposuction from the abdomen and back, with fat transfer to the buttocks. I have one burn mark and discoloration from the surgery, and I have been wearing my compression garment day and night ever since the surgery. How long will it take for my stomach to be back to normal?
Answer: Liposuction Burn Mark Thank you for your question. Your mark should continue to fade, but it is unlikely that it will ever go away completely. If it stays pigmented you may be a candidate for laser treatment to help fade it. Discuss you concerns with your surgeon. Good luck.

Answer: Liposuction recovery Hello! You need to discuss with your surgeon his/her recommendations to optimize recovery. Massage of the abdomen and waist with moisturizers (I love coconut oil!) or anti-bruising therapies like Arnica may help. Some surgeons recommend continued compression. I like to get my patients involved with improving the outcome in this way. Activity-wise you should be unlimited.Time will tell as far as recovery of the burn mark. This will fade but will not disappear over time. Was this from a Vaser device? Burns are unusual with liposuction.Good luck!

Answer: Lipo Burn Marks Thank you for your inquiry and the photos. It appears that you may have some hyper pigmentation or darkening of the area on the left side of your abdomen. If this doesn't improve with some additional time for healing your Plastic Surgeon may wish to try some topical treatments or even a scar revision.I also encourage massage of the areas treated with lip in an effort to desensitize the areas and hopefully improve on the healing.Keep in touch with your treating Plastic Surgeon as they naturally want you to have the desired results.Be well.

Answer: Results after liposuction Results after liposuction are typically final around three months. I would not expect any significant change in terms of your body shape and contour. Skin healing does, however, take much longer. Expect changes for as long as one and a half years after the procedure. Your burn may leave a permanent scar, though it will most likely change somewhat over the next year. In my practice, we ask our patients to wear compression garments for two weeks and longer only if they find them useful.Follow up with your plastic surgeon and have him or her address your concerns.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
