Why are my gums dark/red after crowns with other discoloration? (photo)

I had almost all crowns done about eight years ago for cosmetic reasons. Within a year a spot of light color appeared surrounded by red/dark area the light area spread over a number of years and the red dark areas as well. It is obvious people see this when I've showed perio/ cosmo dentist they shine a light it's not as on obvious and I haven't gotten a sure answer.
