I'm 30 years and when I'm not smiling my cheeks look normal however when I smile it looks as though I have a lot of extra skin that does not move up when I smile. It looks like creases, not wrinkles all up my cheeks. What can I do to not have these creases when I smile? As mentioned it is like I have alot of extra skin that does not move when I smile.

Loose skin on animation or smiling

If you have skin that appears loose when you smile but not when you are in repose, especially given you are only 30 years old, you most likely have crow's feet lines.  These usually respond well to Botox injections. There are many other facial configurations that could cause this as well (deficits in cheek volume, lax lower eyelid region, etc. but these could best be determined with a picture.

Loose Skin in Cheeks

As we age, the fat and soft tissue in our faces redistributes and atrophies.  This translates into the face becoming longer and thinner and loss of youthful roundness or heart-shaped appearance.  Initially, these changes are very subtle, and they continue as we age.  This may look to you as a hollow appearance or it can look like loose skin.  The best thing to do is to make an appointment to see your dermatologist or plastic surgeon for an in-person consultation to... more

Creases in the cheeks when smiling

The best options for smiling creases in the cheeks are injectables such as hyaluronic acid such as Restylane or Juvederm. At age 30 there is not enough skin to promote facelift at this point.

Facial creases with smiling

Without a photo it is hard to assess. However, creases with smiling (or "laugh lines") can be improved with a filler like juvederm. At 30 years old, I would recommend a proper skin care regimen which may involve light peels or fractionated laser treatments. There would improve your overall skin quality and appearance.

Dear patient from North Richland Hills, TX Since you’re only 30 and experiencing loose skin on your mid-face area, causing creases when you smile, skin resurfacing might your best answer. Your skin will tighten and your skin will appear refreshed.

A picture is worth....

It is hard to give an opinion on this without pictures, both before and during a smile. Wrinkles are addressed usually by some type of resurfacing but loose skin, especially if there is a lot of it, may be better treated by a facelift. Talk to a board certified plastic surgeon about your concerns.
