Is Lichen Simplex a Condition or a Side Effect of Something Else?

I have dark brown acne-like scars all over my outter arms, outter thighs, buttocks and legs. I hate them. Every time I go to a dermatologist, they diagnose me with lichens simplex, but no one ever takes the time to find out why i'm getting the bumps on these areas in the first place, so I will stop scratching them, which is apparently what lichens simplex is, constantly picking my scars? I just want to get rid of all these scars. I've tried soo many products that didn't help. Please Help!
