Is the contraction, tightening, reduction in skin volume, and flattening of the skin following fractional CO2 laser permanent?

If you would have fractional CO2 laser (deep fx) on a part of your face, i.e. for a scar between cheek and mouth. And after the treatment it would appear that the contraction and tightening was too much, causing the cheek to flatten which is an undesired look. Would that be something permanent? Or would the skin over time eventually go back to its original state and volume, after the effect of the laser wears off? If so, how long would it take for an undesired outcome like that to reverse?
