Laser Hair Removal Damage my Breast Implants?

I grew some hair around the areola after I gave birth. I would like to know if it is safe to have a laser hair remove on this area. I have not heard of hair grow on this area on a woman, so I feel that my problem is isolated. Few years ago, I had breast implants. Now I am considering having laser hair removal and would like know if my implants can be affected by the laser.

Laser Hair Removal after Breast Augmentation

There should be no problem at all with doing this after your breast augmentation. Your hair follicles are way up in the skin and this is where the laser targets.  Even if they were doing it with a light laser it sill woudn't cause a problem since it won't even reach the implant surface. Go for it! DoctorMeade

Laser hair removal won't harm implants

When the laser first came out in 1998, we were worried about its effect on the breast implants. We fired the laser right on the implant and then sent it back to the manufacturer. It had no harmful effect at all. You are safe to go!

Laser hair removal should be safe after breast augmentation

Whether or not your implants are above or below the muscle, laser hair removal to your areaola should be safe. In reality, energy from the laser should not penetrate deep enough to injure the implant. That being said, if you have extremely thin skin and if your surgeon placed the implant through an incision around the areola, there may be a slightly greater risk for injury but it should still be minimal. I hope that helps.

Laser hair removal after Breast Augmentation

There should be no problem at all having laser hair removal after a breast augmentation. Hormonal changes can make the hair follicles start to grow around the nipple. The laser does not reach the implant surface.

Laser hair removal after breast implants

Your situation is not unique. The hormonal changes can make the hair follicles start to grow around the nipple areola. Lase hair removal does not affect the breast implants at all.

Laser Hair Removal and Breast Implants

Hair removal is done with lasers in the 1064 nm wavelength or using certain frequencies of IPL (BBL). Both target the hair follicles in the deep dermis, the mid layer of skin. As such these lasers do NOT penetrate full thickness through the skin and will NOT reach or affect breast implants (or any other implants) which are placed much deeper. Dr. P. Aldea

Laser hair removal around breasts

It is very common for women to develop some hair growth around their areola. This is both genetically predetermined and hormonally related.  Laser hair removal should have no affect on your implants.

No problem with Laser hair removal on breasts after augmentation

There is no contraindication for laser to be performed on a breast that has an implant. There is no chance it could damage the implant. Now, some lasers used on the skin are performed using the patients level of discomfort as to a guide to the settings for the laser. You would not want to use one of these lasers in the early postoperative period when there could be residual numbness to the area.

Areola hair and laser hair removal

There is no contraindication between breast implants and laser hair removal. Laser hair removal only targets the melanin in the hair follicle and thus has no adverse affect on the breast implants.
