Bilateral BA on June 5th 375cc allergen cohesive gel moderate profile under the muscle, crease incision. Right breast dropped beautifully, is soft and natural looking and feeling but the insicion started to dehiscence two weeks ago, PS said to keep it dry and clean and not stretch my breast up. I got home from work today and noticed a significant hole, slight bloody drainage and what looks like a black interior of the hole itself. Please help, what’s going on?

Answer: Incision separating after breast augmentation Hello and thanks for your questions and photos. Very sorry to hear that you are having this experience after your breast augmentation! Most likely your implant is exposed - this is what you are seeing at the bottom of the opened incision. You will need to have the implant removed and possibly have a drain placed, leave the implant out for 6 months, and then an implant can usually be replaced. Call your surgeon immediately to be seen.Best wishes!Daniel Brown, MD, FACSBoard Certified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic SurgeonsMember American Society of Plastic SurgeonsCastle Connolly Top DocReal Self Top 500

Answer: 2 months post breast augmentation, incision has an open wound with what appeared to be black inside. Thank you for your question. I do not want to scare you, but you need to reach out to your surgeon now. It's difficult to say from the photo, but if your implant is exposed it will most likely need to be removed. In this situation, there should be strong consideration for removing both implants. Removal of both implants improves the possibility of maintaining symmetry. Symmetry is more difficult to obtain if you healed with only one implant in place. Removal of both implants also gives you the opportunity to take a break from surgery after you heal. Hopefully, this open wound is shallow and there is no exposure.

Answer: 2 months post breast augmentation, incision has an open wound with what appeared to be black inside. Based on your history and the appearance of the middle photograph it appears you have and exposure of the underlying breast implant. I would urge you to see your plastic surgeon for an exam in person as soon as possible. If the implant is exposed there is serious risk of infection and appropriate care my your surgeon is necessary.
