I developed bilateral grade 4 CC within a month of my initial BA. 3 weeks ago I had a capsulectomy and implant exchange. Two days ago my right breast ( around the upper pec muscle area) began to have a constant burning ache. This is exactly how my problems started last time. My doctor recommended trying a Medrol pack. I'm Concern about taking prednisone but will if it helps with inflammation.
Answer: Capsules To my knowledge steroids do not prevent capsular contracture. This problem remains one of the most frustrating and difficult problems we experience with BA. I would stay in close touch with your surgeon as there are other options that may help prevent a recurrent capsule.

Answer: Likely not for capsular prevention... Unfortunately, we don't have a great solution to prevent capsules from forming. The medrol dose pack your doctor prescribed is more to decrease your discomfort and inflammation of the muscle than it is to help the capsule. Good luck

Answer: Has anyone heard of using prednisone to help prevent capsular contracture? Intraluminal steroids (steroids placed in the actual implant) have been used historically in the 1970's in an effort to combat capsular contracture. While there was some evidence of effectiveness in preventing symptomatic capsule formation, their use was largely abandoned due to multiple associated complications. In my opinion, the gold standard currently for treating recurrent capsular contracture is open capsulectomy and implant exchange along with the use of Strattice. Most physicians familiar with this technique, including myself, have found it to be an effective treatment modality with low recurrence rates.

Answer: Steroids for prevention of capsular contracture I am not aware of any evidence that prednisone will decrease the incidence of capsular contracture. I have found that Accolate has helped some of my patients (though not all) and I have heard from other doctors that Singulair can be helpful. You might want to ask your doctor about them though you should be aware that both are off label for this use. Good luck to you.

Answer: Prednisone to reduce capsule contracture Capsule contracture of the breasts post augmentation mammoplasty The painful symptoms of your contracture and their recurrence early after capsulectomy, and reaugmentation are obvious problems. The use of the Medrol pack is recommended to treat inflammation. It’s inflammation giving rise to the pain. The problem of the contracture is a known complication of breast augmentation and has an associated inflammatory component. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that you actually have an allergy to the implant itself precipitating the inflammation. Check to determine if there is an alternative medicine practitioner in your area who would be willing to assess and determine if you have a sensitivity to the material of your implants. This consideration is well off the beaten path but at the same time it might provide an answer for the rapidity and early-onset of your symptoms. Whereas the Medrol dose pack will relieve your symptoms, this will be temporary if your body is sensitive to the implants. The sensitivity can be treated by the practitioner, possibly affording you longer relief.
