I had a tummy tuck about 2 years ago (it was a phenomenal job and the incision was extremely clean and healed well) I noticed I now have “dog ears” which makes me “appear” like i have a muffin top but i don’t. I’m looking to get these corrected but not sure on the cost. Any idea or range?
Answer: Dog ears and excess fat Dog ears can be excised under local anesthesia for approximately $1,000. Small liposuction can be done under local anesthesia for approximately $1,000. To do these procedures in the operating room under general anesthesia increases your cost by an additional $1,000. From your photographs, the excess fat is a greater problem than the dog ears and liposuction would be the best solution.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Dog-ear correction after tummy tuck Hello and thanks for your questions and photos. So glad to hear that you are pleased with your result. The incision does look as if it healed very well and you have a very nice lower abdominal contour. Usually I would charge my patients a nominal fee to correct this remaining small contour irregularity. If your surgeon is not in your immediate area I would encourage you to schedule a consultation and discuss your tummy tuck revision treatment options with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), who is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), and also a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) demonstrating their commitment to cosmetic surgery and excellence in surgery. Assure that they have multiple before and after photos of results that you like so that you can have an informed discussion about your tummy tuck contour correction and possible results. Best wishes! Answer: Dog Ear Correction Cost? (Photos) From the photos you posted, it doesn't seem so much as a dog ear, but more of a mismatch in the thickness of the fatty tissue above and below the scar on both sides. This can be corrected with liposuction. The area is so small that it could be done with IV conscious sedation. The cost including the OR and Anesthesia is around $3,500. Another option is to do further liposuction of the abdomen and flanks to further reduce the size and further highlight your waistline which has a cost around $6,000.

Answer: Cost of surgery Dear TessaW,the cost of surgery depends on a lot of factors (type of surgery, number of treated areas, anesthesia fee, surgeon, facility fee, city, etc.). In most cases, dog ear removal can be done under local anesthesia. It would be the best to visit or call plastic surgery offices and ask for a price.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Answer: Dog ears after TT Hello TessaW,Dog ears (or excess skin/fat) just on the lateral edges of a TT incision are not that uncommon. Often mild dog ears will resolve over year as your body heals and remodels. But after 2 years what you have is unlikely to resolve without intervention. If these were not present during that first year, it an be due to wait gain in the hips and lower back that makes the transition more obvious. From you photos excision of the additional tissue +/- liposuction will help the transition from your abdomen to your hips/back and give you a smoother contour. I would suggest talking with you initial plastic surgeon to see what sh/e thinks would be the best option. You are most likely to get the best price for any additional work from your original plastic surgeon, and as you have been overall very happy with your results it seems like the natural place to start.Best of Luck!Dr. Rednam
