I just received my temporary veneers and they are so bulky and wide in appearance. They also lift and protrude my lips considerably. Before that I received crown lengthening and my upper lip dropped considerably, but the temporaries changed all that .The dentist made some adjustments but did not remove the bulky feel, or how they protrude my lips. I'm afraid to proceed with the veneers and I'm also thinking of getting a second opinion. Is there ever a time when a new wax should be made?
Answer: They are only temporaries
In my practice, the temporaries are a true replica of what you used to have (however, in my practice we finish a complete set of veneers - up to 28 teeth- in one week). Then when you come to the final appointment we temporarily glue the new porcelain veneers to see if you like them or not, but that would be the final veneer.
Temporaries are not the best outcome since they are made from acrilyc, and of course, they are "bulky" and the idea is to protect your tooth and to have some teeth while we have your new porcelain veneers done and ready to be permanently glued. There is no case in working with "perfect" temporaries made from acrylic since the main function is to protect and not to be in love with the way they look. In my opinion, relax and wait until you see the final veneers, ask the dentist to temporary glue the final porcelain veneers and if you like them, then he can permanent glue them. Thank you and good luck!

Answer: Bulky Temporary Veneers Can Be Corrected!
My suggestion is that you do not proceed with the permanent veneers until you are happy with the size and shape of your temporaries. The main reason for the wax-up is to allow us to give you temporaries that should give you an idea of what your permanents will look like. If you dislike them that much you need to have a conversation with your dentist and clearly communicate what you are unhappy with. This is the time changes can be made. It is worth the time and effort to get this corrected now before the permanents are placed. In the end, I'm sure that your smile will be stunning!

Answer: Temporary Veneers Are So Bulky and Wide?
Did your dentist make the temporaries in the office or were they made in the lab? If the temps were made in the office, like we typically do in ours (unless they are longer-terms temps called processed temps) they should not necessarily effect the final outcome. In-house temps are generally going to be a bit more bulky as they do not fit as well as the final porcelain veneers. We do a try-in visit where the patient will see what the actual final veneers look like (separate from the delivery appointment) so you can have a good idea of what your case actually looks like. If these are temps made by the lab then I would speak with your dentist about having the lab make new temps with modifications that you will be happy about prior to them making the final veneers. Sometimes, by doing more teeth with veneers on the upper, it will also help the proportions of the teeth be less bulky and wide. You can always get a second opinion before proceeding with anything as once the finals are done, it is very difficult and costly to redo them. Best wishes!

Answer: Bulky veneers
As the other practitioners have stated previously the wax-up should be done first to give you a very good idea how the final product will look. The temp veneers should have a very similar shape to what the final restoration should be. Make sure the look you want esthetically and functionally is what you get. Do not allow the finished product to be cemented unless you are satisfied with the veneers.

Answer: Work out the kinks before doing final restorations
The main role of the temporaries is "work out the kinks", both in the bite and the look. If you don't like the temps, you likely won't like the finals. But you might.
I would ask to see the waxup. As stated earlier, the temps should be made from THAT design, and should not feel bulky.
