The short answer is that PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) beads are tiny spheres of plastic, and injecting large volumes of plastic beads in volumes sufficient to enlarge the buttocks would have serious risk of infection, hardness, and scar formation. Once infected, curing the infection is not possible with antibiotics--the foreign bodies need to be removed. Now the patient is faced with either chronic draining infection, abscess formation, scar tissue, and irregular hardness, or having big chunks of her buttocks surgically removed. This is one of several reasons the FDA has not approved PMMA buttock injections. Other countries do not have an FDA, which can be good for medical and drug innovation, but also bad for safety--anything goes. I'm not a big fan of the politically-charged, media-responsive, sometimes ignorant of science culture of the FDA, but this is one area where supervision and approval is actually working as it should.Remember, in foreign countries eating dogs and monkey brains is "allowed." Perhaps that is not something to aspire to, just as PMMA injections are not necessarily something you should desire. Consider implants or BBL (fat grafts). Best wishes! Dr. Tholen
Hello rlogo, thank you for your question. In our plastic surgery center, Ideveloped the technique of resection of biopolymersin face, buttocks and lower backthrough video – endoscopy, a surgery made with minnimal incissions to treatpatients with permanent deformities secundary to Biopolymers injections. Othertechniques such as liposuction, VASER or LASER are absolutely ineffective intreating this type of situation. I hope it has been helpful. This is not one of the exaggerated FDA prohibition. PMMA is really dangerous and the complications of it use are really horrible. Even if you visit a country where is not prohibited you should never accept it. I had to make gigantic reconstructions do to the use of PMMA, and trust me, none of them end beautiful.

PRP (platelet rich plasma) is a collection of growth factors that come from your own body. You have blood drawn just as you would for your labs and then the blood is processed to collect the plasma (and thus the growth factors). This has been used in multiple applications and has become...
Because ~50% of the fat transferred to the buttocks will die over time, it is important to transfer a high volume during a BBL in anticipation of this loss. 1000 liters of fat into each buttock will likely give you results similar to the photos. It is important to find a plastic surgeon that is...
